Rome Sightseeing At the time of going to press the Rome Authorities are in discussions to implement a new system of entry which may incur additional cost to our passengers. As the policy has not been finalized Trafalgar Tours have not included this potential charge in our prices. We believe the cost could be approximately US$10.00 per person and if levied will be collected by our Tour Directors in Rome on route.

Trafalgar believes this policy of not charging for a cost that may not be incurred is the most beneficial for our passengers.

What will you eat? Food and Drink

What’s on the menu?
We couldn’t possibly list all the magnificent cuisine covering all kinds of regional delicacies and specialities, so we’ll have to be content with tempting you with just a few. Italy boasts literally hundreds of kinds of pasta. Each one is cooked and prepared differently but with one thing in common - they’re all delicious! Couscous is found in Morocco and is usually eaten with meats, lamb or beef often served kebab style - it’s a cross between semolina and rice and you’ll love it.

The World's Greatest Restaurants
The choice is endless, everything from a snack to a banquet. How about a real Swiss Cheese Fondue or a mountainous dish of Eisbein and Sauerkraut - don’t tackle it unless you’ve a hearty appetite! In Holland there’s the legendary Rijsttafel, literally a table full of succulent and spicy dishes - they just keep coming! Whatever your taste in food, you’ll find something to satiate your appetite and more in Europe’s gourmet wonderland. Go on, enjoy! You can always lose those few extra pounds when you
get back home!

Eat, Drink and be Merry
Europe’s Carte des Vins is mindblowing. Fruity red wines from Burgundy and Rioja, spicy Gewurtztraminers from Alsace, heady Tokay’s, crisp dry Chablis, and rich dark Clarets. There’s fine Napoleon Cognac, amber Sherries from Jerez, sparkling vintage Champagne and mellow yellow Sauternes. Break the bank with wines bearing the hallowed labels of Lafite Rothschild, d’Yquem, Petrus, Meursalt and Lynch Bages or enjoy the superb and affordable house wines available throughout Europe, they’re what the locals drink, so they’re sure to be excellent.

Shopping

You can shop till you drop!
For the Shopaholic, Europe is Paradise! You name it, and providing you have the means, you can buy it! Swiss Watches, Haute Couture, Leatherwork, Silver and Gold -
it’s all there. Buy intricate hand-made lace tablecloths or surprisingly comfortable
Dutch Clogs, Belgian chocolates, fine Dutch cigars and Russian caviar. For the
serious shopper there are names like Rolex, Dior and Cartier, whilst even the casual window shopper is drawn inexorably to legendary shopping streets like Rue du
Faubourg St. Honore and Via Condotti. There are bargains galore in every country,
you just have to keep your eyes open and you’ll find them.

What to Wear & Weather Information

Will it be hot or cold in Europe?
As you would expect, Europe's climate is quite varied. Winter temperatures can range from minus one degree centigrade in Scandinavia to a mild thirteen degrees centigrade in Lisbon. Summer temperatures can easily reach the mid twenties in central Europe and over thirty degrees in Southern Italy. In summer it's best to pack a light raincoat for the occasional shower, and a sweater for cool evenings. Europe is quite informal but if you're contemplating dining out at one of the many fine restaurants, then we suggest a jacket and tie. Spring and autumn can be surprisingly mild, but you should be prepared with woollens and raincoats. Wintertime calls for heavy wools; temperatures outdoors can be low and the dampness in central and northern Europe can be penetrating. Clothes in Paris and Rome can be very expensive, but keep an eye out for bargains in sweaters and casual fashions.

Australia, New Zealand & the Orient
What will the weather be like?
Beacause we want you to enjoy your Trafalgar vacation to the full, we thought we would give you some useful information about the climate, so you can plan what clothes to pack for your trip. The season "Downunder" are 'upside down' with winter from June to August and Christmas coming in mid summer! Temperatures in Australian cities are usually sunny and pleasant, but in places like Ayers Rock and Alice Springs, they can often be a hundred degrees farenheith, so take a sun hat and plenty of sun cream or sun block. Remember, even on overcast days at the coast you can get sunburned, so please be extra careful. The climate in New Zealand is much the same as in Australia, but a few degrees colder, while in the Orient can vary from hot to cold to humid! You can forget overcoats, but you may find a sweater will come in handy after aday in the sunshine as evenings can be chilly. A light raincoat is a good idea (it does rain at times) and confortable walking shoes should be packed, as no matter what country you travel through, you'll enjoy exciting sightseeing on foot.
