  • Day 2 - Arrive London After checking into your Trafalgar hotel, the remainder of your day is at leisure.

  • Day 3 - London – Stonehenge – Salisbury – Plymouth (2 nights) Greetings this morning from our Tour Director as we travel to Salisbury Plain to visit the ancient monoliths at Stonehenge. We stop in Salisbury to see the Cathedral, the tallest in Britain, before driving through Thomas Hardy country to Dartmoor where we cross the river Tamar into Cornwall. Then we are off to Plymouth where we enjoy a Welcome Drink before dinner with our Tour Director and fellow travelling companions. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 4 - Cornish Excursion First our orientation of the city shows us the Mayflower steps, the place where the Pilgrim Fathers set off for the New World and the Citadel overlooking Plymouth Sound. Maybe take a cruise around the historical harbour before making our way to Land’s End the most westerly point of the British mainland. Then we drive to the famous artists’ colony of St Ives, filled with galleries and charming houses. There’s also the chance to photograph St Michael’s Mount near Penzance before a drive across Bodmin Moor – made famous by Daphne du Maurier’s ‘Jamaica Inn’ – to return to our hotel. (Full Breakfast)

     
  • Day 5 - Plymouth – Glastonbury – Wells – Bath – Cardiff Today we make our way to Glastonbury, where we will visit the Abbey ruins to see King Arthur’s tomb. Then on through Wells with its majestic Cathedral to Bath, where orientation includes a visit to the Roman Baths as well as a drive through the city to admire its Georgian architecture. Next, we cross the Severn Bridge into Wales and its capital Cardiff. Tonight we enjoy dinner at our hotel. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 6 - Cardiff – Tintern – Chester We enjoy a scenic drive along the beautiful Wye Valley, stopping to view the ruins of Tintern Abbey. Then on through Hereford and the unsung beauty of the Welsh Marches to the Tudor market town of Ludlow in Shropshire. Next to Chester where our Tour Director takes us on a walking tour which includes the Roman Walls, the Cathedral, the ‘Rows’ and a fascinating Hidden Treasure! (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 7 - Chester – Lake District – Glasgow A day of glorious scenery as we travel through Lancashire and to the beauty of the Lake District. We drive along the shores of England’s largest lake – Windermere and through countryside, which inspired Wordsworth, to Lake Grasmere, where he is buried. We continue north to Gretna Green where eloping couples married in secret against their parents’ wishes and into Scotland and the borders to the great city of Glasgow. Before checking into our hotel we will dine on Scottish fare in a typical local restaurant. (Full Breakfast / Highlight Dinner)

  • Day 8 - Glasgow – Glencoe – Scottish Highlands (Aviemore) (2 nights) First we will enjoy an orientation tour of the city taking in the Cathedral, George square and the River Clyde, heart of the ship-building industry, before we head into the Highlands. We will travel along the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond on our way to Glencoe, wher­e we will be able to take pictures of the site of the famous 1692 massacre. Next to Fort William to stop at the Commando Memorial for breathtaking views of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. We continue up the Laggan valley, Monarch of the Glen country, to our hotel in the well known Scottish ski resort of Aviemore. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 9 - Highlands & Skye Excursion A remarkably scenic day begins with a stop at Culloden Moor where Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated by Butcher Cumberland so ending the hopes of a Stuart Monarchy. We drive along the shores of Loch Ness where we stop at Urquhart Castle for pictures and to see if we can spot ‘Nessie’! Then ‘over the sea to Skye’ where we have time for lunch and a short drive toward the high and beautiful Cuillin mountains before we return to our hotel via more stunning scenery. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

     
  • Day 10 - Scottish Highlands – Balmoral – St. Andrews – Edinburgh (2 nights) We start our day with a drive through magnificent countryside, and over the grouse moor where the Royal family shoot, to visit Balmoral Castle, the Queen’s highland home. We also visit nearby Craithie Church where Princess Anne was married. We continue our journey through Braemar, host of the Royal Highland Games, to St. Andrews. We also visit the town with its University – the oldest in Scotland – and the ecclesiastical ruins. Finally across the splendid Forth Bridge and to Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, for two nights. During the Edinburgh Festival, we include tickets to the spectacular Edinburgh Tattoo in the Castle grounds. (Full Breakfast)

  • Day 11 - Edinburgh sightseeing & at leisure Our morning sightseeing tour with a local guide includes a visit of Edinburgh Castle perched high above the city on the Crag and Tail, which is the Royal Mile. At the other end of this picturesque cobbled thoroughfare we will see elegant Holyrood House in the shadow of Arthur’s seat. We will drive along Princes Street admiring views across the Princes Street gardens to the Castle and we will also see the new Scottish Parliament building. Later, a drive through the ironically named New Town with its perfect Georgian architecture. Tonight, why not enjoy an optional night our including haggis, whisky and bagpipes? (Full Breakfast)

     
  • Day 12 - Edinburgh – York This morning after breakfast, we travel to the ruins of Jedburgh Abbey and follow the old Roman road to Hadrian’s Wall – built by the Roman Emperor to keep the Scots out of England! We continue through the magnificent scenery of theorthumberland National Park to Viking York. Here we will enjoy a guided walking tour of this – the most haunted city in England – where we will see the Mansion House, the old walls, the picturesque ‘Shambles’ and the awe-inspiring Minster. This evening we will enjoy a Farewell Dinner together. (Full Breakfast / Farewell Dinner)

  • Day 13 - York – Sherwood Forest – Stratford – Oxford – London (2 nights) Our day begins with a scenic drive into the heart of England passing close by Sherwood Forest associated with the legendary Robin Hood. Then on to Stratford-upon-Avon where we visit Shakespeare’s birthplace and see Anne Hathaway’s thatched cottage. We drive through the rolling Cotswold Hills, dotted with honey coloured stone built villages and thatched houses. On our journey we travel, via Blenheim to Oxford, city of dreaming spires. We enjoy a walking tour through the city where students such as J R R Tolkien, C S Lewis and Lewis Caroll once lived and worked and enjoy a guided visit of one of the Oxford Colleges to re-live the life of a typical Oxford student. (Occasionally a visit to a college may be replaced by a visit of the Sheldonian Theatre). Later, we return to London. (Full Breakfast)

  • Day 14 - London sightseeing & at leisure On our morning guided sightseeing tour we see Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace.   • Day 15 - London – USA Bid farewell to Britain and your new-found friends as we transfer to the airport for our return flight to America. (Buffet Breakfast)

  • Day 4 - London – Oxford – Stratford – Shakespeare country (Kenilworth) Greetings from our Tour Director as we travel to Oxford, city of dreaming spires, where such great writers as J R R Tolkien, CS Lewis and Lewis Caroll were students. Here we enjoy a walking tour of one of the Colleges (or the Sheldonian Theatre when the Colleges are closed). On to Bladon to view Winston Churchill’s grave in the little churchyard. Then through the rolling Cotswolds to Stratford upon Avon where we visit Shakespeare’s birthplace and we see Anne Hathaway’s cottage. Later on to Kenilworth where we enjoy a Welcome Drink before dinner with our Tour Director and fellow travellers. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 5 - Kenilworth – York We travel to Staffordshire and the potteries for a visit of the Wedgwood centre where we will learn how this fine china is made and painted. An excellent opportunity to buy at very good prices! Then across the Pennine hills and through Brontë countryside and Viking York. Here we will enjoy a walking tour with our Tour Director including the Shambles, the city walls, the Minster and a Hidden Treasure will be reavealed to us! (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 6 - York – Durham – Edinburgh (2 nights) We travel through the Yorkshire countryside to Durham city where we visit the old centre situated on the peninsula lying on the river Wear. We will visit Palace Green, view the castle and have time to visit the finest Norman Cathedral in Britain. Then on to a section of Hadrian’s Wall built by the Roman Emperor to keep out the Picts and the Scots. Time for pictures before continuing across the Northumberland National Park to the Scottish Border. We cross Carter Bar with its astounding panoramas and view the ruins of Jedburgh Abbey, before arriving in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. (Full Breakfast)

  • Day 7 - Edinburgh sightseeing & at leisure Our sightseeing tour of Edinburgh with a local guide includes Princes Street, the Royal Mile, views of the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood House and Arthur’s seat as well as a guided interior visit of Edinburgh Castle atop the Crag and Tail. You will have the time to visit a delightful village just south of the city, to take a tour of the mysterious Rosslyn Chapel. Made famous by the ‘Da Vinci Code’ this place has long been associated with the Knight Templars and the Freemasons. Later there’s the chance to see Highland Dancers and sample whisky and haggis!   • Day 8 - Edinburgh – St. Andrew’s – Scottish Highlands (Aviemore) Today we travel over the Forth Bridge to the Fife coast and to St. Andrews where we stop to see the famous 18th hole of the golf course! We also visit the town and see its ancient University – the oldest in Scotland. Then over the river Tay via Perth to Pitlochry – a picturesque village famous for its salmon. Maybe visit Blair Atholl castle before arriving in our hotel in the Scottish Highlands for dinner and overnight. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 9 - Scottish Highlands (Aviemore) – Isle of Skye Through rugged scenery with a stop at Culloden Moor where Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated by Butcher Cumberland so ending the hopes of a Stuart Monarchy. We drive along the shores of Loch Ness where we stop at Urquhart Castle for pictures and to see if we can spot ‘Nessie’! Then through Glen Shiel past Eilean Donan Castle to the Kyle of Lochalsh and ‘over the sea to Skye’. We enjoy a short drive towards the high and beautiful Cuillin mountains before we go to our hotel via more stunning scenery. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 10 - Isle of Skye – Glasgow This morning we will travel to Fort William to stop at the Commando Memorial for breathtaking views of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. We continue to Glencoe, where we will be able to take pictures of the site of the famous 1692 massacre. Then along the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond on our way to Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, for the night. Tonight we enjoy a dinner of Scottish cuisine in a characteristic restaurant.   • Day 11 - Glasgow – Lake District – Manchester (2 nights) This morning we will enjoy an orientation tour of the city taking in the Cathedral, George square and the River Clyde – heart of the former shipbuilding industry. Then we head into the Southern Uplands to Moffat where we visit Moffat Woollens. Afterwards we cross into England and the scenic Lake District where we visit Grasmere, home of the poet Wordsworth. Through landscapes reminiscent of his poetry, we drive towards Manchester, where we spend the next two nights. (Full Breakfast)

  • Day 12 - North Wales Excursion Our excursion takes us first to Anglesey and Caernarvon where we visit the mighty castle on the coast in which the Prince of Wales was invested. Then we continue through Snowdonia National Park and make a stop at the tiny railway station which has the longest name, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwlllantysiliogogogoch, where the first Women’s Institute was founded! More glorious scenery regales us as we drive back to the hotel. (Full Breakfast / Dinner)

     
  • Day 13 -Manchester – Chester – Llandrindod Wells First to Chester where our walking tour with our Tour Director shows us not only the ‘Rows’, the city walls and the Cathedral but also another Hidden Treasure! Then we drive over the Horseshoe Pass to Llangollen, home of the International Eisteddfod Music festival and a charming Welsh town on the river Dee. From here we make our way into England’s secret gem – the county of Shropshire – where we stop in the market-town of Ludlow en route to our hotel in Llandrindod Wells for dinner and overnight.   • Day 14 - Llandrindod Wells – Cardiff – Bristol This morning we drive to the Welsh capital, Cardiff, where we see the Millennium stadium and visit the Castle before descending into the lush Wye valley. Here we stop to view 12th century Tintern Abbey and continue across the Severn Bridge to Georgian Bath. We visit the Roman Baths and enjoy an orientation tour before continuing to Bristol.   • Day 15 - Bath – Plymouth (2 nights) This morning we journey to Cheddar Gorge, where we have time to enjoy the rugged scenery, and then to Wells to admire the stunning Cathedral. Then on to Glastonbury in Somerset to visit the legendary burial site of King Arthur. We visit the Abbey ruins and continue south to Dartmoor in Devon. We drive to the charming village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor – setting for Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle’s ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’. Finally past charming thatched villages we reach the city of Plymouth, where we visit the Mayflower steps – point of departure for the Pilgrim Fathers - and view the citadel overlooking Plymouth Sound.   • Day 16 - Cornish Excursion We drive along the rugged Cornish coastline past smugglers’ coves and quaint fishing villages to Land’s End, the most westerly point of the British mainland. Then we drive to the famous artists’ colony of St Ives, filled with galleries and charming houses. There’s also the chance to photograph St Michael’s Mount near Penzance before we return to Plymouth.   • Day 17 - Plymouth – Stonehenge – Isle of Wight – Portsmouth We leave the coast to head inland and visit the World Heritage site of Stonehenge and its ancient Stone Circle. We continue past the ponies and wildlife of the New Forest to Lymington – a yachting marina where we take the ferry to Yarmouth and to the Isle of Wight. We visit the apartments of Osborne House, home of Queen Victoria and her consort, before cruising back to Portsmouth where we enjoy a Farewell Dinner together tonight.   • Day 3 - London – Stratford – York Greetings from our Tour Director this morning as we begin our drive through Oxfordshire countryside to Stratford-upon-Avon. On our arrival we see Anne Hathaway''s cottage at Shottery and then visit the house where Shakespeare was born. This afternoon we continue to Viking York where a walking tour
    takes us through the historic streets to the cobbled ''Shambles'', around the city walls and to the magnificent Minster. This evening we will enjoy a Welcome drink before dinner with our Tour Director and fellow travellers. (Continental Breakfast / Dinner)

  • Day 4 - York – Lake District – Glasgow (2 nights) This morning after breakfast, we will enjoy a beautiful drive that takes us through the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the quaint villages and scenic glory of the Lake District. We continue along the shores of Lake Windermere and today our Tour Director will show us a Hidden Treasure on our journey! Later, we cross the border into Bonnie Scotland and drive through the Southern Uplands en route to Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city and former centre of the shipbuilding industry. On our orientation tour we will see George Square and the Cathedral as well as the River Clyde. (Full Breakfast)

  • Day 5 - Edinburgh Excursion After breakfast our morning drive brings us to Edinburgh, Scotland''s capital, where a guided sightseeing tour shows us Princes Street, the Royal Mile and views of Holyrood House, in front of Arthur’s seat once home of Mary Queen of Scots, the new Scottish Parliament and a guided visit to Edinburgh''s imposing castle. Then enjoy time at leisure to do as you please before going back to Glasgow for the night. This evening we will enjoy an evening of traditional hospitality in a local restaurant.   • Day 6 - Glasgow – Belfast – Dublin (2 nights) An early start today as we drive past Robert Burns'' cottage and his monument at Alloway and then along the rugged Ayrshire coast with its many seals and wild birds via Turnberry and its exquisite golf course to Stranraer for our ferry to Belfast in Northern Ireland. Our cruise takes us past the isle of Ailsa Craig, known as the stepping stone from Ireland to Scotland, on our way to the Irish coast. On arrival in Belfast a sightseeing tour with a local guide shows us both sides of this fascinating city including the City Hall and Queen''s University as well as the dock where the Titanic was built. Then we''re on our way south, crossing the River Boyne at Drogheda and on to Dublin for two nights. (Full Breakfast)

The rest of your day is at leisure. You may wish to shop for Irish tweeds and linen in O''Connell or Henry Streets or maybe take a trip to the stately home of Malahide.   • Day 8 - Dublin – Kildare – Waterford Today after a good Irish breakfast, our first stop will be at the Irish National Stud Farm located outside the town of Kildare. Here we will enjoy a guided walking tour conducted by a member of the friendly staff, through the tranquillity of the grounds and gardens. We will see world-class stallions and have time to visit the glorious Japanese gardens. Then we travel on Irish country roads through the ''Boreens'' to medieval Kilkenny where we see its ancient castle. Later, we continue our drive to the Waterford Crystal Factory where we have an included visit to see how crystal is created before we continue on to our hotel for tonight. (Full Breakfast)

  • Day 9 - Waterford – Cardiff An early start this morning as we drive to Rosslare Harbour where we board our ferry to Pembroke in South Wales, seat of the Tudor dynasty. We drive along the heritage coast and continue on to the Welsh capital Cardiff. Here we stop to view its historic castle and see the Millennium Stadium Cardiff Arms Park.   • Day 10 - Cardiff – Bath – Stonehenge – London This morning we cross the Severn Bridge into England heading to the glorious city of Bath. On our arrival an orientation tour shows us its graceful terraces and includes a visit to the Baths dating from Roman times. From here we continue to the mysterious monolithic stone circle at Stonehenge – a World Heritage site. Then we continue to Salisbury with time to view its impressive Cathedral – the tallest in Britain. Finally we return to London. (Full Breakfast)
