Montana & Glacier National Park Tour Map

About This Tour

8 Days • 10 Meals
Discover the awe-inspiring landscape first seen by Lewis and Clark during their famous expedition, and take an exciting journey through time, from ravines formed by ice-age glaciers to the once-burgeoning mining towns of the Old West.

The Old West Comes Alive!
Join us for a journey back in time as we explore the natural beauty and historic architecture of the great state of Montana. Renowned for its national and state parks, Montana is a nature-lover’s paradise, from its grassy meadows to its towering cliffs and crystal-clear lakes. But it’s also a haven for history buffs. Explore historic mining towns of a bygone age, follow in the tracks of great explorers, and sample the arts and culture of Native Americans who first settled this majestic land. From stately mansions to wide-open spaces, Montana offers something for everyone!

Big-Town Adventure, Small-Town Charm
Our adventure begins in the bustling metropolis of Spokane, Washington. The second largest city in the state, Spokane offers attractions you expect in a major city, but with the friendly ambiance of a small frontier town. During your first night of the tour, feel free to explore Spokane’s Riverfront Park, nearly 100 acres of lush, green meadows featuring a scenic skyride, an IMAX theater and a historic carousel from 1909.

Dramatic Views Will Take Your Breath Away!
More than 20,000 years ago, the territory we know as Montana was covered in sheets of glacial ice. You’ll see the dramatic results of that pre-historic ice age in the rugged mountain ranges, steep ravines and deep lakes that dominate the beautiful countryside of Glacier National Park.

Set in the rugged northern Rockies, Glacier National Park offers 1,000,000 acres of lush forests, alpine meadows and glittering lakes. A highlight of our visit will be a tour of the park’s famous Going-to-the-Sun Road, a 52-mile highway that crosses the Continental Divide and offers some of the area’s most memorable vistas. We’ll journey along this famed highway in one of the park’s vintage red buses. These antique, open-air sedans – called “Jammers” because the drivers had to “jam” the gears on rugged mountain highways – are the classic way to tour Glacier National Park.

You’ll also follow the track of the glaciers as you cruise on the crystal waters of Upper Waterton Lake. Set in Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park in Alberta, Canada, the lake offers scenic bays, looming mountains and serene wildlife. Awe-inspiring lake views will also be seen as we tour Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River.
We’ll take to the water again during our Gates of the Mountain cruise. During this exciting tour, we follow in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark as we view sparkling waterways and spectacular cliffs that loom 1200 feet into the air on either side of the river. It’s a spectacular entry into the great Rocky Mountains!

Historic Landmarks and Cultural Gems
While you’re enjoying “Big Skies” and magnificent landscapes, you’ll also want to keep an eye out for examples of Montana’s rich historical heritage. A land of prospectors and cowboys, Indians and copper barons, the American Northwest is home to remarkable historic landmarks and fascinating museums.

“Go West, young man,” was the cry, and towns like Wallace, Idaho, were part of the reason. Called “The Silver Capital of the World,” Wallace’s Shoshone County has produced more than 1.1 billion ounces of silver since 1884. We’ll visit this mining mecca, and also view the city’s downtown area, where every building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

We’ll re-live the Westward expansion as we tour the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, where we’ll learn what life was like during their grueling and awe-inspiring expedition. We’ll also pay tribute to the Indians who settled these lands with a visit to the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, and examine beautiful examples of Native American arts and culture at the Museum of the Plains Indian.

The American Northwest is also home to beautiful architecture, from the Conrad Mansion Museum, a beautifully preserved Norman-style structure, to the stately Prince of Wales Hotel, perched high on the bluffs overlooking Waterton Lake.

Let Your Frontier Journey Begin!
Follow in the footsteps of famous explorers and prospecting miners! Feel the awe experienced by Lewis and Clark as they first gazed upon the glory of the Rocky Mountains! Join us for an inspiring experience and an exciting journey into Montana’s wonders!

Itinerary

Day 1
Las Vegas, Nevada - Tour Begins
A tour of canyon country features some of America’s most colorful and spectacular scenery and includes visits to three national parks. Your vacation begins in Las Vegas. Probably the most famous stretch of road in the world, its 4 miles of neon-lit resorts with around-the-clock action is like nowhere else on earth. A two-night stay provides you plenty of time to enjoy the shows, the casinos and all the fun.

Day 2
Las Vegas
Today is yours to do as you please. Lounge by the pool sipping cool drinks, experience an amazing one-of-a-kind show, go hiking, or try your luck in the casino. Or perhaps explore the hotels on the strip with themes that capture your attention as you get swept away by the wonders inside. Take time to visit Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef aquarium or stop by the Luxor to see the sphinxes and pyramid. New York-New York brings the “Big Apple” to life right on the Vegas strip. See the Eiffel Tower, “ooh” and “ahh” at the Mirage volcano, or watch pirates battle at Treasure Island. The Las Vegas strip brings the world to you.

Day 3
Las Vegas - Zion Canyon National Park, Utah
Leave the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas strip behind and head to the red and white sandstone cliffs of Zion Canyon National Park*. In sheer magnitude and color, Zion is very likely one of the most awe-inspiring national parks in the world.

Day 4
Zion Canyon National Park - Bryce Canyon National Park - Lake Powell
Travel to Bryce Canyon National Park, truly one of the most spectacular scenic wonders of the world. The formations within Bryce Canyon National Park, called Hoodoos, are the creation of wind and water erosion over eons of time. Iron oxidizing within the rock causes the natural orange and red hues that color these formations. Continue south and arrive at your home for the next two evenings, Lake Powell Resort, a stunning hotel that overlooks the sparkling blue waters of Lake Powell.

Day 5
Lake Powell - Monument Valley - Lake Powell
Begin your day with an invigorating breakfast cruise** along lovely Lake Powell. Journey through the territory of the Navajo nation and arrive in Monument Valley, a sacred Navajo land featuring colorful sandstone spires that rise hundreds of feet from the valley floor. Enjoy an exciting Jeep tour, narrated by one of the Navajo tribe members. A stop will be made at a Hogan. The history and symbolism of a Hogan represents every aspect of Navajo life: their thinking, reasoning, planning and their philosophy. Later today, return to Lake Powell for an evening of leisure.

Day 6
Lake Powell - Grand Canyon
This morning you travel through the mesa-studded desert scenery before arriving at Cameron Trading Post. For nearly a century, the post has been a haven for travelers, traders, and explorers who come from all points of the globe to see the wonder of the Grand Canyon and experience the Native American cultures of the Southwest. Later, arrive at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a night of dinner*** and entertainment.

Day 7
Grand Canyon - Sedona - Scottsdale
This morning you will have ample time to explore the Grand Canyon. Behold amazing views of the canyon with a drive along the South Rim. Theodore Roosevelt, upon visiting the canyon, is quoted as saying, “This is one of the great sights which every American, if he can travel at all, must see.” Later, travel through the spectacular Kaibab National Forest to Oak Creek Canyon, where the rock formations seem to change hue with every turn in the road. Upon arrival in Sedona you will have the opportunity to see this beautiful city and take some time to shop in the marketplace. Later, travel to your home for the next two nights…beautiful Scottsdale.

Day 8
Scottsdale - Phoenix - Scottsdale

Learn about the different tribes of the area, their histories, and modern day life of Native Americans in Arizona. After your presentation, a local guide will introduce you to Scottsdale and Phoenix. Highlights of this tour include downtown Phoenix, Camelback Mountain, Paradise Valley, Old Town Scottsdale and more. Next, you will learn how Native American jewelry and handicrafts are made at a jewelry-making demonstration. The rest of the day is at leisure to check out Old Town Scottsdale or just relax at your hotel.

San Francisco–Sonoma–Napa. (Mon.) This morning, visit the pristine waterfront community of Sausalito, located near the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. After free time to explore this Mediterranean-style village with its trendy shops, galleries, and breathtaking views, continue to California’s famous wine-making region. Day 4:
