| About This Tour |
9 Days • 10 Meals
Looming mountains, natural wonders, and historic
mining towns – the American West offers travel treasures
for adventurers of all kinds!
Westward, Ho!
Over nine thrilling days, you’ll experience it all, from
rugged frontier towns of the Old West to spectacular
vistas in some of the country’s most beautiful National
Parks. It’s a unique opportunity to catch a glimpse of
the pioneering spirit that led a nation westward.
Cowboys and Gunslingers
Grab your ten-gallon hat and reach for your six-gun,
because we’ll be stepping back in time to experience
life on the frontier.
Start with historic Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where you’ll
stroll the wooden plank sidewalks of downtown and catch
a glimpse of gunplay every night in the town square.
Cowboy traditions come alive during the summer months,
when latter-day cowpunchers strut their stuff at the
Jackson Hole Rodeo. After Labor Day, we’ll enjoy a show
at the Jackson Hole Playhouse.
Wyoming is also home to a legendary figure of the Old
West, Buffalo Bill Cody. From his early days working on
the wagon trains and riding for the Pony Express to his
exploits as an expert tracker, sharpshooter and showman,
Cody embodied the ideal of the American plains. At the
Buffalo Bill Historical Center, you’ll meet this Western
hero, as well as Annie Oakley, Sitting Bull, and Texas
Jack.
You’ll also immerse yourself in the frontier life of
yesteryear in Deadwood, South Dakota. Designated a
National Historic Landmark in 1967, Deadwood preserves
the history and lore of the rough-and-ready West from
the city’s beginnings as a lawless mining town. Walk the
same streets as Wild Bill Hickok (who met his maker at
the end of a
pistol in one of Deadwood’s many saloons) and Calamity
Jane, and see the town’s stately Victorians, restored
gambling palaces, and “old-tyme” watering holes. Our
tour also includes a trip to Boot Hill, the last resting
place of Deadwood’s famous and not-so-famous denizens.
Breathtaking Natural Beauty
While gold and cattle-ranching lured 19th-century
settlers to the frontier, the area’s natural beauty has
kept visitors returning ever since – and we’ll have many
opportunities to witness these outdoor spectacles.
Our tour includes an inspiring trip to the oldest U.S.
national park, Yellowstone. The park’s geothermal
wonders – including the world-famous geyser, Old
Faithful – offer a dramatic showcase for Mother Nature
at her most powerful. We’ll also take in the glorious
vistas of the park’s Grand Canyon, a natural structure
that took shape more than 10,000 years ago.
While staying in Jackson Hole, we’ll enjoy the “purple
mountain majesties” of the Grand Tetons as we drift
along on a scenic float trip down the beautiful Snake
River. We’ll most likely glimpse wildlife along the way;
our route includes the National Elk Refuge, with its
population of approximately 5,000 wintering elk as well
as the largest bison herd in the National Wildlife
Refuge System.
We’ll also enjoy seeing the Bighorn Mountains of South
Dakota, with its sturdy pines and towering precipices,
and the awe-inspiring heights of Devils Tower. A looming
presence, this natural monolith inspired countless
Indian legends (we’ll learn more than a few!) and took
its place in American film history in Stephen
Spielberg’s classic film, Close Encounters of the Third
Kind.
Man-made Wonders
From the glory of God’s country to the wonders of modern
engineering, our trip also includes a tour of
awe-inspiring, man-made monuments. In Salt Lake City,
we’ll catch a glimpse of the neo-gothic Salt Lake
Temple, the iconic representation of the Church of the
Latter-Day Saints. Built between 1853 and 1893, the
temple is a stunning example of artistry, and lends an
ethereal tone of serenity to the surrounding Temple
Square.
We’ll close our tour with one of the most inspiring
sites in the American landscape, Mt. Rushmore. The
towering visages of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and
Roosevelt have provided a stirring memorial to the
country’s greatest leaders since they were completed in
1941. We’ll also stop at the imposing sculpture of Crazy
Horse, a work in progress that serves as tribute to the
Indians who originally lived in these beautiful hills.

| About This Tour |
10 Days • 11 Meals
From sun-drenched mesas to rushing rivers, spectacular
sights await you in the beautiful, rugged wilderness of
the American Southwest.
Glories of the Great Outdoors
America’s National Parks have dazzled visitors for more
than a century. Join us as we tour some of the most
spectacular treasures of the Southwest. Our ten-day tour
will take us through three states and five parks, where
we’ll witness some of the greatest natural marvels
Mother Nature has to offer. Stand on the rim of the
Grand Canyon, view wildlife as you float down the mighty
Colorado River, and follow the trail of cowboys and
Navajo Indians through windswept desert vistas and
winding river valleys. It’s a remarkable outdoor
adventure you’ll not soon forget!
Bright Lights, Big City
Our tour starts in that glittering cosmopolitan center
of the Southwest, Las Vegas. We’ll be staying in the
heart of downtown near the fabulous Fremont Street
Experience. Home to ten casinos, 60 restaurants and the
spectacular Vista Vision light and music show, the
Fremont Street Experience offers something for everyone.
It’s a fantastic way to bid farewell to city lights as
you embark on a tour of the glorious outdoor splendors
of the region.
Natural Wonders in the National Parks
The big city lights will pale in comparison to the
natural splendors that await you. Our first stop on tour
is the Grand Canyon. Averaging 4,000 feet deep, this
immense gorge has long stood as a symbol of the abundant
beauty of America’s natural environment. We’ll spend two
nights on the canyon’s rim at the rustic Grand Canyon
Lodges. After a day of exploration, you’ll enjoy a
front-row seat to the surrounding scenic treasures as
you dine at the North Rim Lodge, overlooking the
canyon’s gorgeous buttes and spires.
And the Grand Canyon is only the beginning! You’ll
thrill at the sight of the towering sandstone structures
of Arches National Park and Monument Valley, and the
vibrant cliffs, ridges, spires and domes of Capitol Reef
National Park. In Utah’s Bryce Canyon, you’ll see the
effect of thousands of years of erosion on colorful
limestone rock, producing horseshoe amphitheatres, sharp
ravines, and fragile rock formations in pink, white,
yellow and red.
Utah is also home to Zion National Park, a vast expanse
of 150,000 acres of wild canyon country. Our guided tour
will unearth the gems of the natural wonderland, from
hidden waterfalls to spectacular red and white sandstone
cliffs that tower thousands of feet high.
An Exploration of Native American Culture
Our tour will also serve as an introduction to the
native settlers who first made their home in the
majestic cliffs and rugged desert country of the
Southwest. At the Haibab Indian Reservation, we’ll visit
Pipe Spring National Monument, a lush oasis that for
centuries has sustained human settlements from Paiute
Indians to Mormon pioneers.
On the way to Monument Valley, we venture deep into
Native American territory as we visit the Navajo Indian
Reservation. Our visit will be enriched by a Native
American tour guide who describes the fascinating
history of this scenic region.
We’ll also visit Anasazi Indian Village State Park,
where we take an intriguing look at the lives of ancient
cliff dwellers through a tour of a partially excavated
prehistoric Indian village. The park’s newly renovated
museum boasts artifacts dating back to 1200 AD!
Take the Splash! – Southwestern Waterways
While the Southwest is famous for its arid desert
landscapes, no visit to the area would be complete
without a ride on the world-famous Colorado River! After
an included lunch, we’ll board a raft for a tranquil
float down one the country’s most renowned waterways.
Our oarsman will tell colorful tales about the river’s
storied passages as we wend our way through this rugged
and beautiful country.
We’ll also enjoy a refreshing cruise on the
crystal-clear water of Lake Powell. Formed during the
construction of the Glen Canyon Dam in 1963, Lake Powell
is the second largest man-made lake in the United
States, and serves as home to an abundance of wildlife
along its shores.
Hit the Trail for Outdoor Adventure
Blaze a trail through the splendors of the great
American Southwest! Relive the awe early settlers first
felt when they forged their way through this rugged and
inspiring territory. This exciting tour will evoke
