This 10-day vacation is a sample of some of Europe’s major highlights. Start with two nights in London, where sightseeing with a Local Guide includes a visit to St. Paul’s Cathedral and time to watch the Changing of the Guard (if held). Board the Eurostar train to Brussels, then begin a comfortable drive to Amsterdam, where sightseeing by way of a leisurely canal cruise awaits you. Drive through Germany’s Rhineland and Black Forest areas, and stop to visit the famous cathedral in Cologne and to take pictures of Heidelberg Castle. A cruise on the romantic Rhine is included (weather permitting). (Thu.) Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2:
Arrival in London, England. (Fri.) Uniformed Globus Hosts are available to help you make the most of your stay.

Day 3:
London. (Sat.) Sightseeing with a Local Guide includes all the famous landmarks: Knightsbridge with Harrods, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben beside the River Thames, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall’s mounted horseguards and the Prime Minister’s Downing Street, and Buckingham Palace. Day 4:
London–Brussels, Belgium–Amsterdam, Holland. (Sun.) Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and head for the railway station to board the EUROSTAR TRAIN to Brussels, Belgium. From here a comfortable drive will bring you to Amsterdam, Holland’s 700-year-old capital. Enjoy an included CANAL CRUISE aboard a glass-roofed launch, which is the best way to get a good impression of how this city was built and how much still remains from the Golden Age. Day 5:
Amsterdam–Heidelberg, Germany. (Mon.) This morning drive past the Dutch region best known as the locale of A Bridge Too Far near Arnhem to Germany. In Cologne visit the awesome twin-spired GOTHIC CATHEDRAL, and then the afternoon’s highlight: a romantic RHINE CRUISE (weather permitting), before continuing to Heidelberg. Take pictures of the famous red-walled ruins of the castle. (BB,D)

Day 6:
Heidelberg–Lucerne, Switzerland. (Tue.) A scenic drive through the lush valleys and pine-clad hills of the BLACK FOREST, renowned for its cuckoo clocks. On the Swiss border stop at the thundering RHINE FALLS, then continue to picture-book Lucerne. (BB)

Day 7:
Lucerne. (Wed.) Admire Thorwaldsen’s LION MONUMENT on your walking tour this morning, and the ornate patrician houses of the walled Old Town, then cross the famous covered CHAPEL BRIDGE to the Jesuit Church. Rome–Florence. (Tue.) An easy morning drive north to Florence, cradle of the Renaissance. Follow your Local Guide to visit the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS with Michelangelo’s celebrated David, the magnificent CATHEDRAL, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistry’s heavy bronze “Gate of Paradise,” and sculpture-studded SIGNORIA SQUARE. Florence–Venice. (Wed.) Drive across the wooded Apennine Mountain range and through the lush plains of the mighty River Po to Venice. Enter the city in style by PRIVATE BOAT to ST. MARK’S SQUARE. Nice. Excursion to Cannes and St. Paul de Vence. (Mon.) Follow the glittering shores of the Côte d’Azur to Cannes of film festival fame. Day 1:
(Fri.) Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2:
Arrival in Paris, France. (Sat.) The day is free to rest or to start exploring the splendid French capital. At 6 p.m. meet your Tour Director and traveling companions for a special welcome dinner with wine in one of Paris’ fine restaurants. (D)

Day 3:
Paris. (Sun.) Sightseeing with a Local Guide features Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, Champs-Elysées, and more. For a panoramic view take the elevator to the second floor of the EIFFEL TOWER. Afternoon at leisure. An optional excursion to the Palace of Versailles is available. Tonight, a lively cabaret show might just be the ticket. (BB)

Day 4:
Paris–Lucerne, Switzerland. (Mon.) Enjoy a comfortable ride skirting Fontainebleau Forest and through the vineyards of Burgundy to the Swiss border. Enjoy vistas of the Alps as you arrive in picture-book Lucerne. (BB,D)

Day 5:
Lucerne–Como, Italy. (Tue.) Admire Thorwaldsen’s LION MONUMENT and walk through the walled Old Town, then cross the famous covered CHAPEL BRIDGE to the Jesuit Church. Why not join an optional excursion to the top of a mountain? In the afternoon, continue on the St. Gotthard highway past Lugano to the Italian border and arrive in Como, beautifully situated at the lake for your overnight stay. (BB,D)

Como–Pisa–Florence. (Wed.) Past Italy’s commercial capital of Milan reach Pisa, where you stop for pictures of its amazing Leaning Tower. Stay overnight in Florence, cradle of Renaissance art and architecture. (BB,D)

Florence–Rome. (Thu.) Visit Michelangelo’s celebrated David in the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS and the magnificent CATHEDRAL with a Local Guide, admire Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistry’s heavy bronze “Gate of Paradise,” and sculpture-studded SIGNORIA SQUARE.
