Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrive Las Vegas. (Sun.) Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas! This evening, join your Tour Director for a Welcome reception. (WR)

Day 2:
Las Vegas–Grand Canyon. (Mon.) Leave the bright neon lights of Las Vegas behind and cross the old Mohave gold-strike country, passing through Williams on historic Route 66 and the Kaibab National Forest to arrive in the GRAND CANYON. Marvel at one of the Natural Wonders of the World as you experience the dramatic views. There’s time to wander along the Canyon Rim or perhaps join a ranger-led program. Also included in your tour is admission to the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IMAX THEATER , where you’ll discover a Grand Canyon that would take a lifetime to experience. (B,D)

Day 3:
Grand Canyon–Lake Powell. (Tue.) For a once-in-a lifetime experience, take our optional flightseeing excursion; a helicopter flight over the heart of the Grand Canyon with incomparable views of flame-colored walls plunging 4,800 feet into the Colorado River. Later this morning we travel north to the shining shores of Lake Powell. Upon arrival, enjoy a leisurely boat CRUISE and the opportunity to photograph the fascinating scenes created by the sharply eroded canyon walls. Your resort features sweeping views over the lake. Day 4:
Lake Powell. Choose Your Experience. (Wed.) A GLOBUS PLATINUM EXCLUSIVE, select how you wish to spend your day. Choose between a leisurely RAFTING TRIP in Glen Canyon where you’ll learn about the history, ecology, and geology of the region or narrated FLIGHTSEEING excursion over the shimmering blue waters of Lake Powell and fascinating Rainbow Bridge. The remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy all the amenities of your resort. (B)

Day 5:
Lake Powell–Monument Valley. (Thu.) This morning, continue into Navajo country to secluded Goulding’s Lodge in the heart of Monument Valley. Upon arrival, take a dip in the pool and admire the western sky above or perhaps explore the Goulding’s Musuem and Trading Post, home to a wonderful collection of movie memorabilia and Indian artifacts. Tonight, enjoy a NAVAJO cookout . (B,D)

Day 6:
Monument Valley–Moab. (Fri.) In the cool hours of morning, set out with a Navajo guide in a comfortable allterrain vehicle to explore Monument Valley. Have your cameras ready for some incredible shots. Later this morning we continue further north to the resort town of Moab for a relaxing 2-night stay at Red Cliffs Lodge on the Colorado River. (B,D)

Your hotel in Moab is the Red Cliffs Lodge. Offering guests a ranch-like experience amid luxurious western charm, Red Cliffs Lodge sits high on the banks of the Colorado River surrounded by cliffs and situated where western favorites such as Wagon Master and Rio Grande were filmed.

Day 7:
Moab. Arches National Park. (Sat.) This morning we visit ARCHES NATIONAL PARK, home to more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches, such as the world-famous Delicate Arch and many other unusual rock formations. Next, it’s on to CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK, a magnificent showcase of geology where you’ll see the remarkable effects of millions of years of erosion. The remainder of the day is yours to relax at your resort. Perhaps enjoy a wine tasting, a relaxing massage, a game of tennis, or a hike along one of the many trails. (B)

Day 8:
Moab–Bryce Canyon National Park. (Sun.) A day of rich contrasts leads you to BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK. The slow erosion of ages has created fantastically sculptured rock formations resembling castle towers and cathedral spires. The natural amphitheatres and canyons glow with different lights throughout the day. You’ll overnight inside the park at Bryce Canyon Lodge. (B,D)

Day 9:
Bryce Canyon National Park–Zion National Park. (Mon.) After a leisurely morning, descend into half-mile-deep ZION NATIONAL PARK. “Zion” means a place of peace and refuge. Relax at your lodge and enjoy the colorful sandstone walls that rise thousands of feet above the lush greenery of the canyon floor. (B,D)

Day 10:
Zion National Park–Las Vegas. (Tue.) En route to Nevada, stop in St. George to view one of the first Mormon temples in Utah. Then head for the excitement of Las Vegas, where you’ll stay at Treasure Island in the heart of the Strip. A Farewell Dinner is hosted this evening by your Tour Director. (B,D)

Day 11:
Las Vegas. (Wed.) Bid farewell to your new friends as you transfer after breakfast to Las Vegas McCarran Airport for your flight home. (B)

Day 1:
Salt Lake City. Welcome to Salt Lake City! This evening, mix and mingle with your traveling companions at the 6 p.m. WELCOME RECEPTION. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure. (WR)

Day 2:
Salt Lake City–Jackson. Morning sightseeing focuses on the city’s many historic monuments, including Temple Square. Continue northward into Wyoming, and reach the all-western town of Jackson. This evening, enjoy the BAR-T-5 CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT and Wild West show. (B,D)

Day 3:
Jackson. National Museum of Wildlife Art. This morning, visit the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WILDLIFE ART, overlooking the National Elk Refuge, which boasts more than 4,000 works of art inspired by humanity’s relationship with nature. The afternoon and evening are at leisure to stroll along the downtown boardwalks and enjoy a drink in one of the swing-door saloons. (B)

Day 4:
Jackson–Grand Teton National Park–Yellowstone National Park. Morning is free in Jackson to explore the array of shops and museums in the historic downtown area. Then head north through GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK and on to YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK , established in 1872 as the world’s first national park. Admire famous Old Faithful Geyser that has been erupting consistently for more than 100 years. (B,D)

Day 5:
Yellowstone. Mammoth Hot Springs & Yellowstone Lake. A scenic drive with a stop at Fountain Paint Pots. At Mammoth Hot Springs, take a short trail walk through steaming limestone terraces. Rejoin the loop road and enjoy several photo stops with the best perhaps at Yellowstone River’s Lower Falls, almost twice as high as Niagara. (B,D)

Day 6:
Yellowstone–Cody. Near the east exit of the park, watch for wildlife. Leave Yellowstone for Cody, named after dashing Buffalo Bill Cody. This afternoon, visit the BUFFALO BILL HISTORICAL CENTER, a fine museum of weapons and western art. Later, enjoy free time or an optional float trip on the Shoshone River. (B,D)

Day 7:
Cody–Little Bighorn Battlefield–Sheridan. Enjoy this morning’s scenic drive through the Bighorn Mountains on your way to the LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD. Tour the battlegrounds where Custer was defeated by approximately 7,000 Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors, and visit the museum. Then head to the cattle town of Sheridan. (B,D)

Day 8:
Sheridan–Rapid City. Journey through the rolling hills of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin and BLACK HILLS NATIONAL FOREST, arriving in South Dakota. Tour DEADWOOD, once a wild gold-mining town, and hear stories of legendary Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Afterward, visit TATANKA, “The Story of the Bison,” and experience the richness of the Lakota people, a Plains Indian buffalo culture. Continue to Rapid City. (B)

Day 9:
Rapid City. Visit to Mount Rushmore. The day begins with a visit to CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, built in honor of the fearless Sioux Indian chief. Afterward, explore MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, which features the monumental likenesses of four U.S. presidents—Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. Maybe stroll along the Presidential Trail for more intimate views or visit the Information Center. Tonight, your Tour Director hosts a special GLOBUS FAREWELL CELEBRATION DINNER. (B,D)

Day 10:
Rapid City. Vacation ends this morning with guests departing on independent schedules. Transfers are provided to the Rapid City Airport. (B)

Day 1:
Arrive in Rapid City. (Sat.) Welcome to Rapid City, gateway to the Black Hills. Join your Tour Director for a Welcome recept ion this evening. (WR)

Day 2:
Rapid City–Badlands National Park–Custer State Park. (Sun.) After breakfast, enjoy an orientation tour of Rapid City, then visit BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK where you’ll see some of the most spectacular scenery in the region. Afterward, there’s time to explore Wall Drug, wellknown for its quirky roadside signs and free water. Later this afternoon, enjoy a BUFFALO SAFARI and a CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT. We overnight at the Historic State Game Lodge in Custer State Park, known as the Summer White House of President Calvin Coolidge. (B,D)

Day 3:
Custer State Park. (Mon.) This morning you will travel to Hot Springs to visit the world’s largest MAMMOTH SITE where scientists are currently excavating remains of woolly mammoths that were trapped and died in the pond more than 26,000 years ago. After a short tour, you’ll have time to stroll the sidewalks of the dig area and see the paleontology laboratory. The remainder of the day is yours to relax in Custer State Park. Perhaps try some fly fishing, mountain biking, or take a nature walk. (B,D)

Day 4:
Custer State Park–Deadwood. (Tue.) Today, visit two of the world’s largest stone monuments, MOUNT RUSHMORE and CRAZY HORSE. At Mount Rushmore, the solid granite faces of four presidents loom more than a thousand feet overhead. After lunch, continue to the Old West town of Deadwood, where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are laid to rest on Boot Hill. Overnight at picturesque Spearfish Canyon Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 5:
Deadwood–U-Cross Ranch–Cody. (Wed.) This morning, drive through scenic Spearfish Canyon and across the grassy plains of Wyoming. Enjoy lunch at an authentic WESTERN RANCH, where you can try your hand at fly-fishing, horseback riding, or take a dip in the pool. Next, we cross the Bighorn Mountains via Shell Creek Canyon to Buffalo Bill’s Wild West town of Cody, Wyoming. (B,L)

Day 6:
Cody–Yellowstone National Park. (Thu.) Enjoy a leisurely visit to the BUFFALO BILL HISTORIC CENTER, a fascinating tribute to frontier America. Later, depart for YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, America’s first national park, where wild animals roam freely in vast meadows and forest. Tonight, stay at the majestic Lake Yellowstone Hotel which sits on the shore of Yellowstone Lake and is listed on the Register of Historic Places. (B,D)

Day 7:
Yellowstone National Park. (Fri.) On today’s TOUR you will see Yellowstone’s Grand Canyon with its Upper and Lower Falls, watch for herds of bison in Hayden Valley, and view many of Yellowstone’s geothermal sites, including Old Faithful Geyser. Spend the night at the historic Old Faithful Lodge, one of the largest log structures in the world and located right beside magnificent Old Faithful Geyser. (B,D)

Day 8:
Yellowstone National Park–Grand Teton National Park–Jackson. (Sat.) This morning, tour GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK . The jagged Tetons form a perfect backdrop behind Jenny and Jackson Lakes. Next, continue to the Western town of Jackson, Wyoming. This afternoon and evening are free to explore on your own. Day 1:
Denver. (Sat.) Welcome to colorful Colorado! This evening, mix and mingle with your traveling companions at the 6 p.m. WELCOME RECEPTION. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure. (WR)

Day 2:
Denver–Rocky Mountain National Park–Vail. (Sun.) Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Denver this morning, then it’s on to the beautiful Colorado mountains. Travel to Estes Park, gateway to ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK. A break at almost 12,000 feet provides fantastic alpine scenery. Continue along scenic Trail Ridge Road, crossing the Continental Divide and passing Grand Lake, Colorado’s largest natural lake. Journey to Vail, one of America’s most popular mountain resorts. (B) Note: Rocky Mountain National Park is subject to favorable road and weather conditions.

Day 3:
Vail–Colorado National Monument–Moab. (Mon.) Travel through the massive 1,800-foot walls of Glenwood Canyon to the “western slope” of Colorado. Then visit COLORADO NATIONAL MONUMENT, with sightseeing along panoramic Rim Rock Drive. Admire the majestic beauty of Independence Monument and Balanced Rock. Afterward, continue to Moab, Utah, arriving at Red Cliffs Lodge. Enjoy WINE TASTING at your resort’s winery, then experience an authentic outdoor western barbecue. (B,D)

This evening, enjoy the optional Canyonlands by Night riverboat show. (B)

Day 5:
Moab–Mesa Verde National Park–Durango. (Wed.) Head back to Colorado and travel to MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK, a World Heritage Site. Stop at Spruce Tree House, one of the best-preserved cliff dwellings. Also visit the museum that depicts the story of the people who once thrived on this 8,000-foot plateau, and stop at a great vantage point for pictures of Cliff Palace (one of the largest of the 700-year-old Anasazi dwellings). Arrive in Durango, a town born in the gold-rush and silver-mining era, in time for an optional 4-wheel-drive excursion into the mountains or a float trip down the Animas River. (B,D)

Day 6:
Durango. Rail Journey to Silverton. (Thu.) Board the narrow-gauge DURANGO-SILVERTON TRAIN this morning for a scenic ride through San Juan National Forest. The legendary steam train hugs steep canyon walls winding its way through Rio de las Animas Canyon with vistas of snow-capped peaks. Free time in Silverton, once a major mining town which owes its name to the bragging statement by an early miner: “We have no gold, but silver by the ton!” Return to Durango. (B)

Day 7:
Durango–Santa Fe. (Fri.) Head to New Mexico and to the charming city of Santa Fe, the oldest seat of government in the United States. Experience Santa Fe up close as you embark on a GUIDED WALKING TOUR of the many historic buildings that reveals the town’s Spanish, Indian, and American heritage. Main sights include the San Miguel Mission, the Palace of the Governors, the CATHEDRAL OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI, and LORETT O CHAPEL’S “Miracle Stairway.” The remainder of your day is at leisure. Day 8:
Santa Fe–Taos. (Sat.) Today, travel to the adobe town of Taos, seated on the high-desert mesa at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. On today’s walking tour, learn about its 1,100 years of history and art by visiting PUEBLO DE TAOS, a Native American village inhabited for nearly 700 years. Explore the historic town plaza, offering eclectic galleries, and wonderful shops during an afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 9:
Taos–Colorado Springs. (Sun.) Leave Taos, traveling across the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, one of the highest in the U.S., and drive north to Colorado Springs, Colorado, stopping at the ROYAL GORGE BRIDGE en route. Walk across the world’s highest suspension bridge and marvel at the rugged rock walls that plunge more than 1,000 feet down to the Arkansas River. Continue to Colorado Springs, home to the U.S. Olympic Training Center. (B)

Day 10:
Colorado Springs. Pikes Peak & Cog Railway Excursion. (Mon.) Visit Manitou Springs and take the CO G RAILRO AD up to the summit of 14,110-foot Pikes Peak, the place that inspired Katharine Lee Bates to write “America the Beautiful.” This evening, your Tour Director hosts a special GLOBUS FAREWELL CELEBRATION DINNER. Wonderful conversation and cuisine make the perfect finale for your vacation. (B,D)

Day 11:
Colorado Springs–Denver. (Tue.) Head north to reach Denver International Airport for guests with homebound flights. Please schedule flights after Noon. The motorcoach then continues into downtown, where the vacation ends. (B)

Day 3:
Memphis–Vicksburg–Natchez. (Sun.) Depart Memphis and drive south to VICKSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK for a guided tour of the historic monuments, miles of reconstructed trenches, an antebellum home, the restored Union gunboat USS Cairo, and the Vicksburg National Cemetery. Continue to the charming port of Natchez, which features vast plantations and magnificent mansions from the boom days of the cotton industry. Experience true Southern hospitality this evening at a candlelight dinner in an elegant antebellum mansion. (B,D)

Day 4:
Natchez. (Mon.) Spend the day in Natchez visiting some of the antebellum homes which are more plentiful here than anywhere else in the United States. A guided tour of ROSALIE, built in the early 1820s overlooking the Mississippi River and once the headquarters of the Union Army, highlights the furniture, paintings, and clothes used by the very family that lived here for more than 100 years! Next, visit LONGWOOD, a National Historic Landmark and a site on the Civil War Discovery Trail. This lavish octagonal home, dating back to 1859, is the largest of its kind in the country. View the interior, where construction was halted during the Civil War and was never completed. (B)

Day 5:
Natchez–Frogmore–Lafayette. (Tue.) Cross the mighty Mississippi for a tour of FROGMORE PLANTATION, an 1,800-acre working cotton plantation. Then head into the heart of Cajun Country, an area first settled by French Acadian farmers. Visit VERMILIONVILLE , a restored Acadian village in the bayou. Local folk in period costumes re-enact the colorful lifestyle of French settlers who moved here to escape British encroachment on Acadia. You’ll enjoy the live music and craft demonstrations. This evening, take the optional outing for a typical Creole dinner with local Cajun entertainment, an appropriate introduction to the region’s Francophone heritage. (B)

Day 6:
Lafayette–Nottoway Plantation–New Orleans. (Wed.) On to St. Martinville to see the famous oak tree of Longfellow’s poem, “Evangeline.” Afterward, board your boat for a CR UISE through the winding, swampy Atchafalaya Basin. Try to spot wildlife on the banks while en route. Then continue to NOTTOWAY PL ANTATION , once the most palatial home on the Mississippi. Tour this opulent 64-room mansion and admire the manicured grounds. Continue to New Orleans. (B)

Day 7:
New Orleans. (Thu.) A Local Guide leads a full morning dedicated to the sights and sounds of New Orleans. Visit the French Quarter, including Jackson Square and Pirate’s Alley. Then stop at a typical New Orleans above-ground cemetery and learn about the city’s unique burial customs. Enjoy a leisurely drive along tree-lined St. Charles Avenue to see stately mansions bordering the historic Garden District. Memphis. (Mon.) This morning, tour the ROCK N SOUL MUSEUM, which traces Memphis’ cultural and musical past and features Smithsonian’s Social Crossroads exhibition. Continue to SUN STUDIOS, the “cradle of Rock ‘n Roll,” and see the original recording studio where musicians like Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many others first created the hot new sounds that became a musical phenomenon and changed the world forever. This evening, maybe take in a Blues club on recently revitalized Beale Street. (B)

Day 4:
Memphis–Nashville. (Tue.) Depart for Nashville. Upon arrival, experience this city up close and personal with a sighseeing tour of landmarks with a Local Guide, including Centennial Park’s full-size replica of Athens’ Parthenon and the recording studios of Music Row. Tonight you have reserved seats for an unforgettable show at the world-famous GRAND OLE OPRY, the mecca for country musicians. (B)
