Day 1:
(Tue.) Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2:
Arrival in Amman, Jordan–Dead Sea. (Wed.) Transfer from Amman Airport to your Dead Sea hotel, the lowest point on earth (Gen. 14:3). Balance of the day is at leisure. At 6 p.m. meet your Tour Director, then enjoy this evening’s welcome dinner with your traveling companions. (D)

Day 3:
Dead Sea. Excursion to Amman, Jerash, and Um Qais. (Thu.) Drive to Amman for guided sightseeing, including the Citadel and a visit to the ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM. Then continue north to Jerash, the best-preserved Greco-Roman city in the Middle East (Luke 8:26). Next, stop at the Jabbok River, where Jacob wrestled with the Angel (Gen. 32) and in Um Qais, site of the Gadarene swine miracle (Mt. 8:28-34). (BB,D)

Day 4:
Dead Sea. Excursion to Bethany Beyond-the-Jordan. (Fri.) Experience Bethany Beyond-the-Jordan and the BAPTISMAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK, the wilderness home of John the Baptist, where Jesus was immersed in the baptismal springs ( John 1:26-34) and where Elijah ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire (2 Kings 2:1-18). Day 5:
Dead Sea–Mount Nebo–Madaba–Mukawir–Wadi Mujib– Kerak–Petra. (Sat.) One of today’s major highlights is a visit to MOUNT NEBO where Moses saw the Promised Land (Deut. 34:1-12). Then on to Madaba to visit ST. GEORGE’S CHURCH, which houses a precious 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land. Also explore the MADABA ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM. Continue to Mukawir (Biblical Machaerus), where Salome danced and John the Baptist was imprisoned and beheaded (Mark 6:14-29). Next, visit Wadi Mujib, the “Jordanian Grand Canyon,” and Kerak to visit the CRUSADER CASTLE. Afterwards, journey to Petra. (BB,D)

Day 6:
Petra. (Sun.) Full day of guided sightseeing in the “rose-red city” of PETRA, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the WorldŽ. Lost to the world for centuries, it is located in the biblical land of Moab ( Judges 11:17-18). Enjoy an unforgettable experience as you walk down the SIQ, the narrow gorge made famous in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Stand in awe in front of the iconic and famed TREASURY. In addition to seeing numerous spectacular temples and tombs, sip tea in a BEDOUIN TENT. (BB,D)

Day 7:
Petra–Wadi Rum–Dead Sea. (Mon.) Leave Petra for a JEEP TOUR in Wadi Rum, home to stunning desert beauty and the place where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed. Afterwards, return to the Dead Sea. (BB,D)

Day 1:
(Tue.) Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2:
Arrival in Istanbul, Turkey. (Wed.) After arrival at Atatürk Airport, check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free to begin exploring the unique atmosphere of this city built on two continents. It is the gateway between the Orient and Occident as well as the Islamic and Christian worlds. At 6 p.m. meet your Tour Director, then enjoy this evening’s welcome dinner with your traveling companions. (D)

Day 3:
Istanbul–Iznik–Bursa. (Thu.) Guided sightseeing in Istanbul includes visits to the BLUE MOSQUE and TOPKAPI SERAGLIO, the residence of the Ottoman Sultans. Then journey to Iznik (Nicea), site of the First and Second Councils in the early Christian church. The Nicean Creed was written at the First Council to more clearly define the Trinity. Then continue to Bursa. Guided sightseeing features a visit to the GREEN OTTOMAN COMPLEX, the GREAT MOSQUE (Ulu Camii), and the SILK BAZAAR. (BB,D)

Day 4:
Bursa–Akhisar–Sardes (Sart)–Alasehir–Pamukkale. (Fri.) Visit Akhisar (Thyathira), a church praised for its increasing faith but criticized for its tolerance of Jezebel, a local false prophet who mislead the local Christians (Rev. 2:18- 29). Arrive in Sardes to visit the SYNAGOGUE, which has been dated back to the 3rd century and where sacred books were kept. Also, see the GYMNASIUM located on the south side of the synagogue. The gymnasium was constructed during the reign of the Roman Emperor Septimius Server (193-211). Afterwards, visit Sart, the church with a reputation for being alive, but which God announced dead. (Rev. 3:1-6). Next, enjoy an orientation of Alasehir (Philadelphia), the church which received God’s highest commendation (Rev. 3:7-13). Arrive in Pamukkale, home to the spectacular hot springs, for your overnight. (BB,D)

Day 5:
Pamukkale—Hierapolis—Laodicea—Aphrodisias— Kusadasi. (Sat.) This morning features a guided visit to the nearby ruins of Hierapolis, an important seat of early Christianity. Visit the MARTYRIUM of Apostle Philip. Continue to the ancient city and church of Laodicea where Apostle John chastised the inhabitants for being lukewarm (Rev. 3:14-22). Next, stop in Aphrodisias, dedicated to the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, and once a center for the arts. Due to the influence of Christianity in the 6th-century A.D., the name was changed to Stavropolis meaning “City of the Cross.” In the 13th century it was abandoned altogether. On to your hotel in Kusadasi. (BB,D)

Day 6:
Kusadasi. Excursion to Patmos, Greece. (Sun.) Enjoy a BOAT CRUISE to Patmos Island and visit the CAVE OF THE APOCALYPSE, where John the Evangelist wrote the Book of Revelation during his exile (Rev. 1:9-11). Balance of the day is at leisure. (BB,L,D)

Day 7:
Kusadasi. Excursion to Ephesus. (Mon.) Arrive at Ephesus, one of the New Testament’s most significant cities (Rev. 2:1-7). Apostle Paul came in 53 A.D. to this ancient city and wrote his famous epistle (Acts 18:19-26; Ephesians) to its inhabitants. According to tradition, the Apostle John wrote his Gospel here. This is also the place where the Virgin Mary spent her last days. Visit the ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE, including the HOUSE OF MARY, and the BASILICA OF JOHN THE EVANGELIST. (BB,D)

Day 8:
Kusadasi–Izmir. (Tue.) Journey to Izmir (Smyrna), and enjoy an orientation tour. The city was established in 3,000 B.C., and one of the Seven Churches which John referred to as the poor, persecuted church that God announced was rich due to their faithfulness amidst their suffering (Rev. 2:8-11). Also visit MOUNT PAGOS, where Alexander the Great is regarded as the founder of the city. In 334 B.C., Alexander the Great visited Smyrna and fell asleep while hunting on Mount Pagos. In his dream, the goddess Nemesis asked him to bring the people of the Smyrna-Bayrakli there to establish a new city. Enjoy your overnight stay in Izmir. (BB,D)

Day 9:
Izmir–Bergama–Troy Area. (Wed.) Visit Bergama (Pergamum), the church that John both affirmed and chastised (Rev. 2:12-17). See the Red Basilica which housed the 1st-century Christian church referred to by John in Revelation. In addition, Pergamum was an active trade and commerce city in the early centuries, which allowed it to develop the first parchment to compete against the Egyptian papyrus. Visit the Greek ACROPOLIS designed to imitate the one in Athens. Also visit the ASCLEPEION, once dedicated to the Greek god of healing. Continue to TROY, the perfect place to brush up on Homer’s Trojan War, hollow wooden horse and all. Spend the night at nearby Canakkale. (BB,D)

Day 10:
Troy Area–Istanbul. (Thu.) By FERRY, cross the Dardanelles back to Europe and the 20th century. Return to Istanbul and continue guided sightseeing including a visit to the HAGIA SOPHIA (meaning Holy Wisdom and named by 4th-century theologians) which began as an early Christian church. Next, visit the GRAND COVERED BAZAAR with plenty of time to explore its 4,000 tiny shops. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner. (BB,D)

Itinerary

Day 1:
Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2:
Arrival in Athens, Greece. Transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day is at leisure. At 6 p.m. meet your Tour Director, then enjoy this evening’s welcome dinner with your traveling companions. (D)

Day 3:
Athens. Sightseeing and Excursion to Corinth. Enjoy sightseeing with a Local Guide in Athens, the most important city in ancient Greece and famed for its culture, learning, and great philosophers. Visit the ACROPOLIS with the Parthenon and AREOPAGUS, where Paul delivered his famous sermon about the identity of “the Unknown God” (Acts 17:15-34). Afterwards, continue to Corinth for a guided visit of the EXCAVATIONS and where Apostle Paul worked for 18 months with tent makers Aquila and Priscilla (Acts 18:1-18). (BB)

Day 4:
Athens–Piraeus (Embarkation)–Mykonos. Begin your 3-day Greece and Turkey CRUISE with a visit to the mountainous island of Mykonos. Free time to explore the island before returning to the ship for evening entertainment. (BB,L,D)

Day 5:
Rhodes. Dock in Rhodes where Apostle Paul landed in 51 A.D. (Acts 21:1). Admire the medieval-walled city with its palaces and “inns” built by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. Marvel at the beauty of the island, or you may wish to join an optional excursion to charming Lindos with the acropolis and imposing Knight’s Castle. (FB,L,D)

Day 6:
Patmos–Kusadasi, Turkey. Visit Patmos with free time to discover the “Jerusalem of the Aegean.” You may wish to join an optional tour to the Monastery of St. John and tour the Cave of the Apocalypse, where John the Evangelist wrote the Book of Revelation during his exile (Rev. 1:9-11). Continue your cruise to the Turkish port of Kusadasi, from where an optional excursion is available to the ruins of Ephesus, to whose inhabitants Apostle Paul wrote his famous epistle (Acts 18:19-26; Ephesians) and which was once the capital of the Roman province of Asia and the House of Mary, where the Virgin Mary is said to have spent her last days. Day 7:
Piraeus, Greece (Disembarkation)–Thessalonika. Disembark and journey north to Thessalonika. Enjoy guided sightseeing of this city, named after Alexander the Great’s sister, and which figures prominently in the New Testament at which time this provincial capital was considered a worldcultural center. This community was the center of Paul’s activities in Northern Greece as it is where he preached and founded a church and to whom he wrote two epistles (Acts 17:1-9; 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians). Day 8:
Thessalonika. Excursion to Philippi and Kavala. Full-day excursion along the ancient route of Apostle Paul to Amphipolis (Acts 17:1). Journey to Ancient Philippi which was named after the father of Alexander the Great. This busy Roman colony boasted a great library and theater. In Philippi, Paul preached, established the first church in Europe, and was to whom he wrote one of his epistles while imprisoned in Rome (Acts 16:11-40; Philippians). It was in this area Paul met Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She and her household accepted Christ and were baptized in the nearby river (Acts 16:11-15). Next, continue to Kavala, ancient port of Neapolis (Acts 16:9-11). (BB,D)

Day 9:
Thessalonika–Veria–Kalambaka. This morning, stop in Veria (Beroea of the New Testament), where Paul and Silas were sent by friends after being accused of treason in Thessalonika (Acts 17:5-15). Visit the BEMA OF APOSTLE PAUL, where Paul is said to have stood and preached the Gospel to the local community. Continue to Kalambaka. (BB,D)

Day 10:
Kalambaka–Meteora–Athens. In Meteora, visit VARLAAM and ST. STEPHEN’S MONASTERIES. Situated atop vast rocks, the 14th-century monasteries compose one of the most breathtaking sites in the world. Inside the monasteries, discover many historical and religious treasures. Return to Athens and enjoy this evening’s farewell dinner. (BB,D)

London. (Mon.) A full day of sightseeing with a Local Guide includes WESTMINSTER ABBEY. Also visit WESLEY’S HOUSE AND CHAPEL, BUNHILL FIELDS CEMETERY (resting place to many well-known Christians, including author John Bunyan who wrote the beautiful Christian allegory The Pilgrim’s Progress), and ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL in the City of London. (FB)

Day 4:
London. Canterbury Excursion. (Tue.) Depart this morning for a drive southeast into Kent, the “Garden of England,” for a visit to CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL, England’s Mother Church, where you hear about Thomas ā Becket and the Black Prince. On your return to London, visit SPURGEON’S METROPOLITAN TABERNACLE. Charles Haddon Spurgeon was an influential Baptist pastor born in Essex, England. He founded an orphanage still in existence today. In addition, he befriended and supported James Hudson Taylor, who founded the China Inland Mission in 1865. (FB)

Day 5:
London–Oxford. (Wed.) Travel to Oxford, the city of the dreaming spires. Join a Local Guide as you visit magnificent CHRIST CHURCH COLLEGE and CATHEDRAL. Your Tour Director will then take you on a walking tour of Oxford to see Lincoln College where John Wesley founded the Holy Club, nicknamed “Society of Methodist.” George Whitfield, whose preaching in America was a significant part of the Great Awakening revivals, was also a member of the Holy Club. Some free time to explore the city and perhaps visit the Eagle & Child pub that was frequented by C.S. Lewis and his friends, including J.R.R. Tolkien, for their literary club known as “the Inklings.” After a lunch break, continue your walking tour of Oxford, visiting MAGDALEN COLLEGE, where Lewis was elected a fellow in 1925. At the Kilns, former home of Lewis, pause for photographs before visiting HOLY TRINITY CHURCH in Headington Quarry, where he is buried. Then, drive by the former home of Tolkien, writer of The Lord of the Rings. (FB,D)

Day 6:
Oxford. Bristol via the Cotswolds Excursion. (Thu.) Journey through the scenic Cotswolds to Bristol. Visit ST. MARY REDCLIFFE CHURCH, the 800-year-old masterpiece of gothic architecture and one of the biggest parish churches in England. Also explore the JOHN WESLEY’S CHAPEL and THE NEW ROOM, the oldest Methodist building in the world, before returning to Oxford. (FB,D)

Day 7:
Oxford–Epworth–York. (Fri.) Head north to Epworth, birthplace of John and Charles Wesley. At the OLD RECTORY visit their childhood home, which was built in 1709 by Samuel Wesley and is now a museum. Also visit the WESLEY MEMORIAL CHURCH, completed in 1889 as a memorial to the contribution made by John and Charles to world religion. Continue to York to see one of the most intact medieval walled cities in England. Follow your Tour Director through a maze of quaint streets, including the narrow Shambles. The walking tour ends with a visit to the stunning YORK MINSTER. (FB,D)

York–Lincoln–Cambridge–Milton Keynes. (Sat.) Visit LINCOLN CASTLE where Samuel Wesley was imprisoned. In the venerable city of Cambridge visit the 500-year-old KING’S COLLEGE, including the CHAPEL with its marvelous fan-vaulted ceiling and stained-glass windows (visits are restricted during examinations). Day 9:
Milton Keynes–Olney–Bedford–London. (Sun.) This morning, travel to Olney to visit OLNEY BAPTIST CHURCH, where the renowned English missionary William Carey served as pastor. Then to THE COWPER AND NEWTON MUSEUM, which contains an extensive collection of possessions and manuscripts of William Cowper and Rev. John Newton. Cowper was a prolific poet and writer of Christian hymns, and Rev. John Newton is best known for writing the beloved hymn “Amazing Grace.” On to the JOHN BUNYAN MUSEUM in Bedford, which features his life and works. Late afternoon return to London. (FB,D)

Afterwards, travel to Eisleben and visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the HOUSE in which Luther was born and the STERBEHAUS MUSEUM, home of his last residence. Then visit ST. Day 4:
Dresden. (Thu.) Situated on the shores of the Elbe River, Dresden has a rich history as the capital and royal residence for the Kings of Saxony. Here culture and art have flourished in past centuries. Your morning guided tour includes the newly refurbished FRAUENKIRCHE, built by the citizens of Dresden, and the HOFKIRCHE built by August the Strong. You’ll also see Dresden Castle, Semper Opera House, and Raphael’s Sistine Madonna in the OLD MASTERS’ PICTURE GALLERY adjoining the renowned ZWINGER PALACE. In the afternoon, free time to explore a museum or other offerings of this unique city. (BB)

Day 5:
Dresden–Eisenach–Erfurt. (Fri.) This morning, continue to Eisenach for a visit to WARTBURG CASTLE where Luther translated the Bible. Also visit the LUTHER and JOHAN SEBASTIAN BACH memorials as well as the LUTHER HOUSE where he lived during grammar school. Then visit ST. GEORGE’S CHURCH where he sang in the church’s boy choir. Frankfurt. Rhine Cruise and Excursion to Mainz. (Sun.) Today features two major highlights: enjoy a scenic RHINE CRUISE, and visit the GUTENBERG MUSEUM in Mainz to see original copies of the Bible. (BB)

Day 8:
Frankfurt–Worms–Heidelberg–Rothenburg. (Mon.) Stop in Worms, where the Imperial Council passed judgment on Luther in 1521. Visit the CATHEDRAL where Luther presented his case, as well as TRINITY CHURCH and the famed REFORMATION MONUMENT. Next, stop in Heidelberg and take pictures of its red-walled castle. Continue to Rothenburg, one of Germany’s best-preserved medieval cities. (BB,D)

Day 9:
Rothenburg. Excursion to Nuremberg. (Tue.) During your orientation of Rothenburg discover sites like ST. JACOB ’S CHURCH with the renowned Blood Altar. Next is Nuremberg, the first town to accept the Reformation in 1525. Orientation includes the famous LUTHERAN LORENZ CHURCH with headsets for clear commentary. (BB)

Day 10:
Rothenburg–Augsburg–Munich. (Wed.) In Augsburg guided sightseeing reveals the city where Luther and his followers proclaimed their beliefs. Continue to Munich and enjoy an orientation tour. (BB)

Day 11:
Munich–Zurich, Switzerland–Geneva. (Thu.) This morning, travel through the Alps to Zurich for an orientation tour, including a visit to GROSSMUNSTER CHURCH, the mother church of the Reformation in Switzerland under Ulrich Zwingli. Also see the Helferei where Zwingli lived. Then visit FRAUMUNSTER CHURCH, known for Chagall’s stained-glass windows. Next, a comfortable drive to Geneva, where John Calvin and John Knox preached. Day 12:
Geneva. (Fri.) Your orientation tour in Geneva includes the United Nations Headquarters, Red Cross Headquarters, the World Council of Churches Headquarters, and a stop at the REFORMATION MONUMENT.
