| Celebrity Cruises
offers activities geared to young people as part of its overall
onboard entertainment program. Celebrity provides activities for
children ages 3-17 with a four-tier, imaginatively created
children's program for each age group, run by an exceptional staff
of warm, caring, highly trained counselors. It's a program of
exciting and educational entertainment in a safe environment about
which parents can feel totally secure. There is no charge
for participation in the Family Cruising Program.
Staffing
Youth activities are directed and
organized by a special staff of youth counselors. Staff members
are highly qualified and specially trained in the fields of child
psychology, child development, education or recreation. In
addition to shore-side teaching experience, counselors have
previous cruising experience - working with young people - on
Celebrity ships as well as a variety of other cruise lines. Most
Celebrity Counselors hail from the United States and Canada.
During the period when the Family
Cruising Program is operational, each vessel will carry eight (8)
to twelve (12) youth counselors(including one supervisor and one
lead) working sixteen (16) hours a day to implement a safe and
successful youth program.
Here are some
Highlights of the Children's Program
(Available during Summer and Select Holiday Sailings)
Summer Stock Theatre: Summer
Stock Theatre is one of the most enriching and exciting features
of the youth program. Children interact with others their age,
become characters of the story, rehearse, and communicate with
each other while actually producing a great play that enhances
their self-confidence. Each youth group has its own role in the
production: Ship Mates perform songs and dances; Cadets have the
main speaking roles in the production (there are non-speaking
parts as well); Ensigns direct and produce the play, including
lighting, sound, stage design and make-up. And for those teens
that enjoy being in the spotlight, there are various comical
"commercials" interspersed throughout the play. A
highlight of the week, the play is then performed for family,
friends and other guests.
Young Mariners Club: The
Young Mariners Club offers participants a
"behind-the-scenes" look at cruising. Organized
activities allow young people to interact with the different
departments of the cruise ship, including vessel navigation and
day-to-day operations. Ship Mates create various cruise-related
arts and crafts projects and Cadets and Ensigns interact with the
food and beverage, entertainment, and hotel departments.
Junior Olympics: Excitement
is in the air during the Junior Olympics. Family, friends and
fellow cruisers surround the pool area, cheering on their favorite
team. In this competitive, family-oriented event everyone is a
winner.Competitions include: Basketball Hoop Shot, Relay Races,
Number Games, Spirit Contest, and Diving Challenges.Gold and
Silver Medals are given out for achievements.
Clown Party: This party for
Ship Mates and Cadets begins with a special surprise visit from
the Celebrity party clown. Cake and fruit punch are served, and
the party continues with dancing games, face-painting and
pictures.
Treasure Hunt: The Ship
Mates® treasure hunt is a special event for the entire family
with children disguised as pirates -- complete with hats and
swords -- and parents armed with cameras. Our own "Celebrity
Pirate" lurks around the deck, providing clues to the
location of the hidden treasure. The children must then decipher
the clues and find the loot that they can take home with them.
Masquerade Parade: Ship
Mates and Cadets have the opportunity to design and create
costumes with Celebrity-supplied materials, and then show off
their work in a parade around the ship.
Slumber Party (Group Sitting): Who
will have more fun, you or your kids? Celebrity's Slumber Party is
available from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. every evening for children ages
3-12. Slumber Party charges are $6 per hour per child. On Formal
Nights, the Slumber Party is complimentary.
For private baby-sitting and
infants under 3 years, in-cabin baby-sitting services are
available (on a limited basis) for $8 per hour per family (maximum
2 children). Arrangements for private baby-sitting are made at the
Guest Relations Desk in the main lobby.
