Tour Itinerary

Day One - Arrive in Beijing
Upon exiting customs, you will be met by an Adventures by Disney representative who will escort you to your transfer vehicle. Relax as the driver assists with your luggage and escorts you to The Peninsula Beijing Hotel.

The Peninsula Beijing Hotel: You've had a very long flight that crossed the International Date Line. Take the day to relax and settle into this elegant hotel, conveniently located near many of Beijing's landmarks. Enjoy the Chinese decor and the modern amenities.

Welcome Reception: Meet the other families that are sharing the adventure. You will begin with a traditional long-spout, tea-pouring ceremony, followed by a dinner of classical Chinese dishes, with special options for Junior Adventurers. After dinner, you may choose to dress up in Chinese Imperial costumes and have your photograph taken. Meal included: Dinner

Day Two - Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City
Join a privately guided, family-focused tour of Tiananmen Square and discover Beijing's fascinating history. Afterwards, walk through the imposing Forbidden City— the palace complex where China's emperors ruled the Middle Kingdom for nearly 500 years. Lunch at Da San Yuan: Enjoy a family style lunch at a Cantonese restaurant.

Discover Beijing: After lunch, you may relax or take the opportunity to explore the sights of Beijing on your own. Visit quaint teahouses and fascinating temples, or look for bargains at one of the many markets. Ask your Adventure Guide for suggestions.

Welcome Dinner: Before dinner, adults and Junior Adventurers create their own souvenirs with the help of a master kite maker, a master calligrapher and a master opera mask painter. After a dinner of Eastern and Western dishes, you are treated to a short private performance of Beijing opera. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Three - Stroll on the Great Wall
Ride a cable car up to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, one of the New Wonders of the World. Walk along the top of this incredible structure and admire the fabulous view!

The Schoolhouse in Mutianyu: Enjoy a western-style lunch at this converted village schoolhouse in the shadow of the Great Wall. Afterwards, a local chef demonstrates how to create perfect noodles, and an artisan creates whimsical glass figurines.

An Evening On Your Own in Beijing: Savor the flavors of Beijing during your final evening on your own in this vibrant city. You have a choice of wonderful restaurants and night markets. Or attend a performance of a colorful Beijing opera or exciting acrobat show. Your Adventure Guides can help find the perfect activity for you and your family. Meals included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day Four - Hutong Pedicab Tour
Travel by pedicab through the narrow streets of Beijing's ancient Hutong neighborhoods. At stops along the way, participate in demonstrations of traditional crafts like knot-tying and decorative paper-cutting, as well as a remarkable acrobatic display by a yo-yo master. Lunch at the Noble House Restaurant: Enjoy lunch in the hutong at a relaxed lakeside setting in the city.

Fly to Chengdu: After lunch you fly to Chengdu (flight time 2:40 hours), the capital of the Sichuan province in western China. This 2400-year-old city is famous for its brocade fabrics and as a center for breeding Giant Pandas.

Dinner at Gingko Restaurant: Before settling in at the Sheraton Lido Chengdu Hotel, enjoy the polished contemporary setting of Gingko, the city's premier restaurant specializing in a blend of elegant Sichuan and Western dishes. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day Five - Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Day Six - Fly to Guilin
Today you travel (1.5 hour flight) to one of the most beautiful regions in the world, near the ancient city of Guilin. Lunch and Walk on the Guilin Esplanade: Enjoy lunch at the Guilin Sheraton and a privately guided walk on the Guilin Esplanade that parallels the Liijang River.

Hotel of Modern Art: Travel by coach to your hotel that is in a setting that will take your breath away. Around the hotel is a park displaying larger-than-life outdoor sculptures, playscapes and an art museum. And beyond the park is a scene right out of a classical Chinese painting — the beautiful limestone karst formations known affectionately as the "Gumdrop Mountains."

Hotel Activities: Enjoy a privately guided tour on a bike or, if you choose, a stroll through the spectacular, traffic-free Modern Art Park around the hotel.

Junior Adventurer's and Adults-Only Dinner: Later at the hotel, Junior Adventurers can enjoy their own special dinner and view a Disney movie in the museum's state-of-the-art theater. Adults may join them or enjoy dinner by themselves at the hotel.

How strenuous are the activities?

While this adventure is not considered physically strenuous, most days will include one to three hours of walking. On Day Three, the hike along the Great Wall is moderately strenuous with a number of brief ascents and descents. The 13-day itinerary is filled with fun, gentle activities, including Tai Chi lessons, a casual bike ride, and strolls through city streets, historic sites, parks and gardens. Moreover, the itinerary includes visiting five distinct regions that are linked by four commercial flights within China. Flight times range in length from one to three hours. As noted, nearly all of the trip's featured activities are gentle if examined separately; however, the full range of activities and length of the journey requires a moderate amount of stamina in order to get the most of your vacation.

What ages are appropriate for this adventure?
While we welcome children ages 4 and up at the time of travel to discover the stories of the world with us, we recommend that children be at least 8 years old at the time of travel on our Enchanted China trip. This is based on several factors, such as flight time and jet lag, time zone differences in the destination, duration of the vacation, extended hours of daily activity programming, number of internal transports between experiences, potential for extreme temperatures in the summer months, and amount of physical activity (e.g., walking) involved. Because each child is different, call a Concierge Agent to discuss whether this is the right trip for your kids.

What is the language and currency of this destination?
Language: Although Mandarin is the official language of China, many people speak Cantonese and other dialects. English is widely spoken in Hong Kong, although the predominant language is Cantonese. We have selected hotels throughout this itinerary, in part, for their staff's ability to communicate in limited English.

Currency: Chinese currency is called Renminbi (People's money), though it's usually abbreviated as RMB. The largest denomination of the RMB is the yuan. In Hong Kong, the currency is the Hong Kong Dollar (HK$).

U.S. dollars are not accepted for payment anywhere in China. Hotels and banks typically impose a 5% fee for currency exchange transactions. Using your debit card in local ATMs – widely available throughout the trip – is the most efficient way to obtain cash in China. Credit cards or debit cards are widely accepted in China in hotels, restaurants and department stores but cash is still the medium for local shops and small markets.
