Day 1: Arrive Stockholm
Upon arrival of your flight, a transfer is included from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Sheraton Stockholm Hotel. Sweden’s historic capital is set on 14 islands laced with canals and waterways; your hotel is located in the heart of downtown, next to Old Town. Meet your fellow travelers this evening at our welcome reception and dinner in the hotel as we begin our journey through Scandinavia.

Day 2: Discover Stockholm / Vasa Museum
Urban cool, naturally beautiful and steeped in cutting-edge design, Stockholm also boasts a medieval heritage of cobbled streets, centuries-old red-brick squares and marine treasures. Learn more about this fascinating city of old and new on a sightseeing excursion that includes a guided visit to City Hall, built in the National Romantic style and boasting gilded mosaics on its interior walls. Continue on to the Vasa Museum, home to the Vasa warship. Raised after 333 years at the bottom of Stockholm harbor, it is the only 17th-century warship in the world that is completely intact. View objects that were salvaged from the sea bed, including tools, coins and everyday utensils. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy the city. Walk through Gamla Stan (Old Town), view the Changing of the Guards at the Royal Palace or sample regional specialties at an outdoor café.

Day 3: Journey to Toftaholm
Travel to southern Sweden today, where landscapes of farmland and forests embrace magnificent lakes. Stop for lunch in the Lake Vattern area, home to painted churches, cathedrals and castles that date back hundreds of years. Continue on to your family-run manor house hotel in Toftaholm for an overnight stay, experiencing an authentic glimpse of life in the country.

Day 4: Crossing to Copenhagen
Breathtaking scenery makes your drive to Sweden’s southerly coast for our crossing into Denmark most enjoyable today. En route, stop for lunch and a visit to Sofiero Slott, just outside of the  harborside city of Helsingborg. This majestic 1865 palace, used by King Gustaf VI Adolf as his summer palace until his death in 1973, is revered for its gardens and grounds. The new Oresund Bridge / Tunnel connects Sweden to Denmark in the city of Malmö; cross it this afternoon as you travel to Copenhagen for a two-night stay. Enjoy water-view rooms at your hotel, overlooking the historic harbor, and dine à la carte tonight.

Day 5: The Many Charms of Copenhagen
Get to know Denmark’s capital on a guided city tour that includes a visit to the 17th-century Renaissance-style Rosenborg Palace and an opportunity to see the Danish crown jewels. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy as you wish. You might want to explore Nyhavn to see the colorful schooners that line the quay and stroll along the pedestrian shopping street, Strøget. Tauck includes a ticket for you to visit the famous Tivoli Gardens at your leisure tonight. It has been referred to as a Scandinavian “rainbow of gardens, open-air amusements, restaurants, cafés, theatres, and a major concert hall” that’s great fun for all.

Day 6: North Sealand / Ferry to Norway
We’re Norway bound today so pack an overnight bag for your memorable ferry cruise to Oslo tonight! Set out after breakfast for Frederiksborg Castle, the largest Renaissance palace in Scandinavia. A look inside with our local guide includes the royal art gallery. Follow Tauck’s Yellow Roads through North Sealand to a rustic inn for lunch and a typical taste of freshly prepared country fare. Return to Copenhagen along the Danish Riviera and visit the Museum of Danish Resistance before boarding a ship for Norway – stay in Commodore cabins. Note: triples aboard DFDS ships from Copenhagen to Oslo will be accommodated in one double and one single cabin.
Overnight: Sailing aboard DFDS Seaways Ferry to Oslo

Day 7: Around Oslo / Viking Ship Museum
Wake up to a parade of inspiring sights along the coastline as your ship heads up the narrows of the Oslo Fjord to Norway’s lively capital city of Oslo. Once ashore, an overview tour of the city includes a visit to Vigeland Sculpture Park, showcasing some 212 bronze and granite works by Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. Guided sightseeing continues at the Viking Ship Museum on the Bygdøy Peninsula, featuring ships and artifacts that conjure up the legends and lore of the Viking era. The remainder of the day is free to do as you wish. Your landmark hotel is ideally located in the heart of city, nestled between a beach-lined fjord and the forest-clad hills. Dinner is on your own tonight.

Day 8: Oslo / Gol / The Flåm Railway
Leave the city behind and venture into the countryside, stopping for lunch in Gol before departing on a journey on the Norwegian Railway System to Myrdal – your incredible descent 2,600 feet past waterfalls, ravines and sheer cliffs to Flåm via an electric train on the Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) is sure to be a highlight of your journey. This masterpiece of Norwegian engineering is one of the world’s steepest railway lines on normal gauge and has been billed as the most thrilling train ride in Scandinavia. Overnight at the Flåmsbrygga Hotel in Flåm, where a beer tasting and regional cuisine enrich your experience.

Day 9: Stave Church / Naeroyfjord / Loen
Drive to Laerdal, passing through the longest land tunnel in Europe for a visit to the Borgund Stave Church, among the best-preserved of Norway’s iconic stave churches. A ferry cruise and lunch on the Naeroyfjord follows and includes a visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum in Fjaerland; learn how the flowing ice has sculpted the landscapes you have seen today through multi-screen presentations and exhibits. Your destination tonight is Loen, home to some of the oldest farms in Norway. Spend the next three nights at a family-run hotel set amidst the towering mountains and the spectacular Nordfjord. Get a real taste of Norwegian hospitality at tonight’s barbecue dinner.

Day 10: Visit to Briksdal Glacier
Some of the country’s most magnificent glacial landscapes can be found close to your hotel. Journey to Briksdal Glacier today, one of Norway’s most inspirational natural wonders and the most accessible. Water flowing from the glacier has formed a trio of emerald-green lakes that are wondrous to behold. Ride aboard a “Troll Car” past waterfalls and lush terrain, then take a short hike to the foot of the glacier for astounding views. After a family-style lunch, return to your Loen hotel to explore, swim or enjoy the spa, attend a lecture and have dinner.

Day 11: Dalsnibba / Geirangerfjord / Hellesylt
Weather permitting, drive to Dalsnibba, the region’s highest point reached by road, to experience the incredible vistas that surround you, before embarking on a ferry cruise on the beautiful Geirangerfjord past cascading waterfalls and fjord scenery to Hellesylt. A special three-course lunch awaits at the Hotel Union Øye. Dating back to 1891, this “romantic Fjord Palace” was a favorite retreat of the aristocracy for decades.

Day 12: Through the Fjordlands to Bergen
Your travels today take you south through Norwegian fjordlands and include a ferry ride from Lavik to Oppedal, then a journey over land to Bergen. Business-class rooms have been reserved for you at your hotel, which is within walking distance of the historic wharf district, Bryggen, oft mentioned in Viking sagas. Dinner is on your own tonight. This seaport city has a relaxed atmosphere, stunning setting and a vibrant cultural life – restaurant choices abound.

Day 13: Bergen / Troldhaugen
Bergen is the gateway to the fjords, characterized by its location on the water and a centuries-old legacy of sea trade – explore it, in-depth, on a guided city tour that includes an excursion to Troldhau­gen to visit the former home of Norway’s beloved com­pos­er Edvard Grieg. Return to Bergen for time at leisure. Join us for a farewell banquet dinner tonight.

Day 14: Journey Home
