DAY 1 - Arrive in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
You are met and privately transferred to your hotel. Afternoon sightseeing takes you past Copacabana and Ipanema, two of the most famous beaches in the world. Then take a cable car ride to the summit of Sugar Loaf Mountain with its spectacular 360° view of the city. Return to your hotel later this afternoon.
DAY 2 - Rio de Janeiro
Drive by the fashionable residences of the Barra district. Then, proceed to the top of Corcovado Mountain to admire the 122-ft high, 1,400-ton granite statue of Christ the Redeemer, one of the new Seven Wonders. Pass Maracana Stadium, the world’s largest with a capacity of 200,000 spectators, and continue through downtown with a stop at the New Cathedral. This evening, enjoy a “churrascaria” dinner (barbecue) for which Rio is famous. (B,D)
DAY 3 - Rio de Janeiro
A free day. Your local guide will have suggestions on things to see and do.(B)
DAY 4 - Rio de Janeiro / Iguassu Falls
Fly to Iguassu Falls; on arrival you are met and privately transferred to your hotel. Your afternoon is dedicated to exploring this magnificent panorama of waterfalls from the Brazilian side. (B)
DAY 5 - Iguassu Falls / Buenos Aires, Argentina
Enjoy a free morning before a guided tour of the Argentine side of the Falls. Afterward fly to Buenos Aires, the “Paris of South America.” The balance of the day is at leisure. (B)
DAY 6 - Buenos Aires
Sightseeing takes you to the Plaza de Mayo. See Casa Rosada; visit the Metropolitan Cathedral; view San Telmo, the Teatro Colon, Avenida 9 de Julio, Recoleta Cemetery and Palermo Park. This evening, enjoy Argentina’s famous beef and delicious wines, watch a presentation of the sensuous Tango and listen to unforgettable Pampas and Andean music. (B,D)
DAY 7 - Buenos Aires
A free day. There are many things to see and do. Check with your local host. (B)
DAY 8 - Buenos Aires / Santiago, Chile
Transfer for your flight across the Andes to Chile. Land in Santiago, the capital of a country with 2,650 miles of Pacific coastline. (B)
DAY 9 - Santiago
Step back in time as your local guide retraces Santiago’s heritage and history. Begin at the city’s civic center and the neoclassical La Moneda Palace. Also visit Plaza de Armas, a picturesque square surrounded by the 18th century Cathedral Metropolitana and the central post office. Nearby is the Central Market, a colorful conglomeration of vegetables, fruits and flowers. The rest of the day is free. (B)
DAY 10 - Valparaiso & Viña del Mar Excursion
Begin the day with a drive to the beautiful coastal region west of Santiago. Travel through Chile’s wine country to the historic port of Valparaiso and continue along the coast to Viña del Mar. Return to Santiago later this afternoon. (B)
DAY 11 - Depart Santiago
If you purchased airfare in conjunction with the tour, are transferred to the airport for your overnight flight home. (B)
