Stay in wilderness lodges in the heart of Alaska, enjoying a variety of included activities that are fun for every age and generation. See wildlife on rafting excursions; try to land the “big one” in an Alaskan river; and engage with mushers, prospectors and naturalists who make every day an adventure on Alaska: Call of the Wild! McKinley on a flightseeing excursion, reigning over Denali National Park. Go kayaking, river rafting or wilderness hiking in the Kenai region. Visit the Alaska SeaLife Center, for up-close encounters with puffins, octopuses and sea lions. Cruise through the Kenai Fjords where Alaskan wildlife, like bears and moose, may be spotted along the shore. Have lunch with a prospector at a historic gold mine. Day 1 – Arrive Anchorage, gateway to Alaska Tour begins: 6:00 PM at the Hotel Captain Cook. Upon arrival, a transfer is included from Anchorage International Airport to the Hotel Captain Cook in the heart of the city. Meet your fellow explorers at our welcome dinner tonight at your hotel. Meals D Day 2 – Jet boat adventure and treasure hunting First, it’s all aboard the most technologically advanced river jet boat* in Alaska – specially designed to navigate once-inaccessible mountain rivers – for a ride into the heart of the wilderness. Your local naturalist guide will help you spot bald eagles, moose and maybe even bears along your river route. Then put on your hiking shoes as you explore the backwoods of “bush” Alaska. Visit a fur trapper’s cabin to see firsthand how these hardy outdoorsmen lived in this challenging environment at the turn of the 20th century, and try to imagine yourself in their shoes – including those web-footed snowshoes, a must for winter survival! Continue on to the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge near the Alaska Range for a two-night stay. Activities today include a high-tech treasure-hunting game of “Geocaching.” Test your family’s skills at finding hidden caches with your handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) by following online GPS coordinates, a great way for families to explore the outdoors in a friendly team-based competition for Tauck Bridges guests only. Meals BLD Day 3 – Meet Alaskan Huskies and a “musher” Dog sledding is popular as both a sport and a practical form of transportation in Alaska’s snowy interior. Today, meet an Alaskan “musher” and future sled dogs on a visit to a summer training facility for the world-famous Iditarod race; see how these amazing dogs are trained, taught voice commands and fed along the race trail, and learn how to harness and hitch up a dog. A day in the life of the locals continues with a guided wilderness hike around Byers Lake and a campfire later tonight. Meals B Day 4 – Flightsee near Mount McKinley Weather permitting, get set for a breathtaking flightseeing journey over the foothills of Denali National Park for a chance to view the ice-clad summit of Mt. McKinley. Back on land, head to Kenai Peninsula, fondly known as “Alaska’s playground.” Spend the next two nights at the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge tucked into the pristine Chugach National Forest in Cooper Landing. Meals BD Day 5 – Wilderness fun on the Kenai Peninsula The Kenai Peninsula offers endless opportunities for outdoor fun. A choice of included activities today – a 5-mile guided wilderness hike, a kayaking adventure* or a river-rafting float trip* – invite you to explore the region your way. Fishing is also available on the world-renowned Kenai River at an additional charge. Meals BLD Day 6 – Natural riches of the Alaskan coast Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center on the shores of Turnagain Arm this morning. See orphaned animals that are being rehabilitated here, from moose and musk ox to bald eagles and grizzly bears. At the turn of the 20th century, gold miners flocked to this area in search of untold riches; meet a prospector, pan for gold and have a barbecue lunch at historic Crow Creek Mine. The rest of the day is free to enjoy resort activities. Meals BL Day 7 – Explore by rail and sea today It’s all aboard a self-propelled railroad car along the scenic Turnagain Arm to Whittier where a boat is waiting to take you on an exciting glacier adventure cruise with an expert wildlife guide. Glide by thundering waterfalls and two spectacular tidewater glaciers, touch a piece of a real glacier and participate in hands-on marine experiments with the Captain and crew. Share memories – and addresses – at our farewell dinner tonight back at the hotel. Meals BLD Day 8 – Journey home Tour ends: Anchorage, Alaska. Fly home anytime. A transfer from Hotel Alyeska to Anchorage International Airport is included. Allow a minimum of 2 hours for flight check-in. Meals B Ratings & Reviews:This tour has no reviews yet.
