Experience Oberammergau’s Passionsspiele Tauck’s alpine odyssey takes you to the Bavarian village of Oberammergau to attend one of Europe’s most beloved and venerable traditions, a performance of the 2010 Oberammergau Passion Play, or Passionsspiele, depicting the Passion of Christ. In the 1630s, as the plague raged throughout Europe, the people of Oberammergau vowed to perform a play about the life of Jesus every ten years if they were spared from the devastating epidemic... and kept their promise. First produced in 1634, the village’s Passionsspiele now involves the talents of over 2,000 actors, musicians and technicians – all Oberammergau residents – and includes dramatic scenes of the Passion (in German), as well as musical performances and tableaux vivants of Old Testament scenes. Enjoy Tauck’s premier seating – in the best category available – for the performance, which begins in the afternoon, and, following a dinner break, continues into the evening. An English libretto is provided to enhance your enjoyment of this once-in-a-lifetime experience! Meals BLD 6. Explore Innsbruck / Austrian Alps Depart Bavaria and cross into Austria to Innsbruck. Standing like sentinels in the sky, the sheer rock walls of the Dolomites are distinctive landmarks which can be seen for miles. Get set to enjoy panoramic views of these impressive alpine peaks – some of which rise to nearly 11,000 feet – during a ride aboard a cable car (weather permitting). Meals BLD 8.
