Shipboard Policies

  • Special Dietary Needs - Advance Notice Required

Guests with food intolerances or allergies that are NOT life-threatening:

    • Please contact the Ship Services Department at 800-541-1576.

Special dietary needs, such as vegetarian, diabetic or gluten-free meals, are easily accommodated with advance requests. Kosher meals and a Health Conscious Dining option are also available. To arrange special meals, please contact the Ship Services Department at 800-541-1576 at least 90 days prior to departure. As You Wish® dining is currently available on all ships.

For guests with food allergies that ARE life-threatening:

    • Holland America asks that guests provide detailed information to the Access & Compliance Department by completing a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form. Guests should indicate on this form which foods may potentially cause a severe reaction.

Guests with a variety of severe food allergies sail with Holland America Line regularly. The galley staff on board is accustomed to and experienced in dealing with these types of needs. The galley itself has many different areas of food preparation, which can help reduce the possibility of cross-contamination. It is important to note, however, that meals are prepared in mass quantities on board, thus there is always the possibility of some cross-contamination. As such, Holland America Line cannot guarantee that a guest will not come in contact with those items. Although the Access & Compliance Department will provide the ship with an advance notice of all food allergies detailed on an SRI submitted to them, it is recommended that guests also contact the Dining Room Manager upon boarding to review the details of these special dietary needs.

  • Internet Access
Guests can connect to the internet, either by accessing a 24/7 wireless connection "hotspot", or utilizing the resources of the Explorations Café or Internet Café located on board. Guests will be able to receive electronic mail in real-time, via satellite link 24 hours a day, satellite conditions permitting.

  • Wheelchair Access & Special Needs
Holland America seeks, to the extent feasible, to accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities. There are a limited number of staterooms designed for wheelchair access. Service animals are permitted onboard if prior arrangements have been made. Guests must bring an adequate supply of any prescription drugs they use and keep them in their carry-on luggage.

Certain land and shore facilities may not be fully accessible to persons with disabilities. While Holland America endeavors to contract with companies which provide accessible services and facilities, they cannot guarantee that all services and facilities will be fully accessible.

If a guest's condition requires special medical apparatus or assistance onboard, Holland America must be notified of any special medical, physical or other requirements of guests at the time of booking in order to determine whether they can accommodate guests' needs. Please contact the Access and Compliance Department via email at halw_access@hollandamerica.com, via fax at 1-800-577-1731, or via TTY at 1-800-254-8669.

  • Smoking Policy
For the comfort of all guests, all indoor areas are designated non-smoking with the exception of:

    • Casino
    • Outside Decks
    • Sports Bar
    • Crow's Nest

Holland America ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the guests' comfort. All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances.

Cigar and pipesmoking is permitted on the outside decks only.

  • Pregnancy Policy
Holland America will not accept reservations for guests that will be 24 or more weeks pregnant at the time of their cruise. Pregnant guests must provide a physician’s letter stating the expected due date, medical fitness to travel and the pregnancy is not high risk. The letter must also include the guest's name, booking number, ship and sailing date.

Letters need to be faxed to the Access & Compliance Department at 800-577-1731. Or mail them to:

    Holland America Line
Attention: Access & Compliance Department, 2nd floor
    300 Elliott Avenue West
    Seattle, WA 98119

Guests are urged to have the letter faxed in as soon after making their reservation as possible.
